no signs of flowering in mid august outdoors?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by hannahj, Aug 13, 2018.

  1. I am in michigan and i have a few plants outdoors. I germinated the seeds june 26 (which i know is late) and they are about 22 inches tall and fairly bushy. 2 of them are indica dominate green crack x durban and the other is supposedly landrace purple afghan. I am started to get scared because these are both roughly 9 weed flowering strains and the average first frost where i live is few days before halloween. should I be worried. also I had a bit of a insect problem a couple weeks back so I sprayed this mineral oil for spider mites i got at the hydro store and I think i sprayed a little bit to much and the leaves were not looking too good but the new ones that came in after I sprayed are looking very healthy. could this have stunted the growth? and should I be worried? there is still no signs of even preflowers. thank you

  2. and also I have a security light in my backyard somewhat near the plants and sometimes animals set it off at night but the light only stays on for a couple minutes when it goes off. could this mess with the plants hormones and keep it from flowering?

  3. Anything you said is possible. 1 thing stay away from oil on your leaves. It could burn them from the sun. Or suffocate them. Read bout stomata on leaves. They need to breathe

  4. IMO you got started just a hair too late. I did too but I think it'll be a very close call for ya. Next time, try to germinate the seeds in April or May and get an LED grow light to veg them a bit before you put them outside. Mid June is when I got mine out, they were about 8-12 inches tall and currently they are 3-4 feet tall and have had pistils for 2ish weeks. We frost about the same time you do. I'm in the mountains of East wv/western MD. I don't know what medium you're growing in or if you're using nutes but yeah that's my guess for ya

Lose the light. It might only stay on a couple mins, how many time a night. Even a couple mins could I suppose might affect it. I believe nothing over a full moon brightness. I have a security light 75yds. form my grow and hasn't affected anything in the last 5+yrs.
I'm in Michigan also you should be seeing some kind of flowering depending where your located as in how much.

You could put a plant out the end of July and it would flower and produce bud.
The amount of darkness is what triggers flowering.

  7. Some pretty knowledgeable Growers have said in the past that you can just turn the light on for a few minutes by your plants to keep them from flowering really can't tell you how much light that is. Also indicas are stubborn flowers. Things are flowering out here in California so I don't know

    Ive heard it both ways.
Ive also heard say total darkness and nothing over a full moon. I go with the full moon because of the security light 75yds. from my outside grow. I cant say for sure it doesn't affect it cause I've never growing with it off.

  9. Yes but if that plant dies from frost before fully ripe, then he gets nothing. If it flowers too late and doesn't produce actual bud in time he would get nothing. The plants we are talking about are from seed remember not clones. They have to reach maturity before they flower

  11. 0.1 Lumens is enough to hinder flowering. The moonlight doesn't count in this number. I've done a bit of research on it and the dark period has to be uninterrupted. If you can somehow block that light from directly hitting your ladies you will be MUCH better off. Another option is to cover them at night but REMEMBER TO TAKE of off in the morning or your plants will bake.

  12. That light needs to go first off. Yes it's affecting it. It will also make it herm small seed buds no real smokeable bud. Lesson learned least there wasn't no cash involved

  13. Im seeming to have a similar issue although i have seen preflowers. I am in NY and started mine end of may. I feel like i am in flowering as the plant definitely stretched and again i have preflowers but its been 3 going on 4 weeks or so without any actual signs of flowering, i.e. budlets and such

  14. I'm growing outside myself. I'm in southern Ohio. I've got a few out. I have one strain that's slower than the others and it's just throwing hairs finally . The others are on their way. I grow on hillsides so I get flowering by end of July . I know Ohio weather and mine need to be done mid Sept no later. The last pic is the one just showing hairs. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

  15. Yea it usually smells like the strain. The shoot from the leaf squeeze it that's where u smell the most .

  16. The security light probably screwed up their cycle. No matter how late they were put out they should be responding to length of days and atleast show signs of flowering by now. I think that light has them confused.
