I built a pc about a month ago and everything has been fine since. Last night I turned off my computer and the next morning it wouldnt boot up. It seems all of the fans are going and lighting up when I turn on the tower but there is no beeping sound like I used to have and nothing shows on my monitor. Ive taken out the ram, unplugged/replugged every wire. Any idea what this could be? My computer was running fine yesterday and ive made no changes.
Yeah it's most likely the motherboard. Make sure all the wires are hooked up to the motherboard all the way and none are loose. If it's bad you should be able to send it back for repairs, even without the original packaging. It really depends on how the company handles these things.
I would pull the mobo out of the case...have nothing but CPU, heatsink/fan, PSU hooked up...put the mobo on anti-static bag and clear cmos...then fire it up.
Are you sure it isn't the monitor? Did you try hooking up a different monitor? It may be your gfx card/display adapter.. You may want to try a different gfx card if you have one. There could be so many things that are causing your PC to not boot up. It's almost impossible to give you a direct answer without physically inspecting it.
The reason I think its the motherboard is because when I would boot up or restart my PC it would make a beep everytime before launch. I don't have another gfx card I could use, i dont its not thAT. I don't think its the monitor because something about no signal displaying on the monitor thats why I think its working.
I've had cases where the monitor would display "No signal detected" If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the drivers conflicting with the gfx card. You said your PC would make 1 beep every time it booted? That's an indicator of a RAM/memory failure.
You can clear the cmos without pulling out the mother board just remove power and cmos battery for a while. If its a single beep thats not an indication of failed Ram, its the consistent beeeeeeeeeeeeep for ages that tells you the Ram is fried. Could be mother board, id check the graphics card to.
it sounds like your psu is sensing a short in the system so its preventing it from starting up. The fans will still run usually when this happens. check for any bulging capacitors or anything else out of the ordinary. Check your jumpers, one may have came undone or something. Your mobo manual will have info on your jumpers, if u lost manual, manufacture should have .pdf of it. Also try and run the pc outside of the case, maybe your mobo is coming in contact with the case somehow also resetting the cmos can be done with a jumper, ive never trusted the battery trick it doesn't work for me very much. only thing to do is test every part, go down the list and figure out what is causing it. Youll need another pc of similar specs though.
I was just going to say it was probably the power supply but I guess there is no need for that anymore.
Wow someone actually came back to post a final outcome. Mark your calendars and get out your history books, folks.
