night vision?

Discussion in 'Beginner Cannabis Consumption & Tips' started by rader720, Feb 22, 2010.

  1. okay so a while back while smoking with my buddy (at night) i was looking around and noticed i could see rather well and the moon wasnt even near full. so i was thinkin, since smoking usually dialates your eyes, thus letting more light in, does this make you see better at night? lol weed = night vision!

  2. Ha, nice train of thought, but I doubt weed dilates your eyes any more then they'd naturally be from having little light. Sitting and acclimating to the darkness for even just five minutes- actually letting your REAL inborn night vision kick in- is a much better way to see in the dark.

  3. Quarter moon will give you a lot of light.

Try it when it's cloudy, shit definitely gets a lot harder.

  4. I'd 'try' doing ANYTHING outside if it weren't so goddamn cold out there.

  5. Cannabis has been shown, in some studies, to stimulate the synapses located in the occipital lobe of your brain (which is integral to visual processing).:smoking:

Your eye (technically your retina) has two different types of photoreceptor cells which allow you to see; rods and cones. Rods are located on the outside of the retina, operate for peripheral vision, and allow you to see in areas of low illumination because they are more sensitive to light. Cones are located in the center, operate for trichromatic (color) vision and allow you to see in areas of high illumination as they are less sensitive to light.

Your pupil dilates to let in more light and activate the photoreceptors. Since you were in low illumination (the dark), the rods were activated, allowing you to actively see in the dark. However, while the rods allow you to see at night, there is a loss of visual acuity, so things may seem less sharp/more blurred.

The fact that the moon was slivered may have promoted better vision at night by increasing retinal sensitivity. Your eyes may not have been as sensitive, if say, the moon were big, full, and bright. It would have also helped if there were little to no streetlights, stoplights, other forms of illumination, etc. You can also see this how this process works by looking up at the stars on a dark night and then looking up at the stars on a full moon; you can see the stars better when there is no moon. :hello:

  6. When I first started smoking in the summer I'd go out at night and chill in the backyard. When I got higher I kept thinking it was daylight, like the sky was a light blue. Good shit

  7. ACTUALLY..... You'd be surprised how acclamated to the darkness your eyes can be. If you're in ALMOST pitch black for thirty minutes, you will be able to see just fine.

  8. one time when i was camping when i wass like 14 me and my buddies snook out to have a sesh and we sat on the beach for a while. we all realized that it was really light out so we were like shit we've been out way too long and its morning now.

so we go back to our tents and check the time, it was only 1:30

but everything was so clear, it was like dusk, like as if everything was just in the shade, the sky itself was orange. It wasn't a hallucination cause all of use saw it the same.

easily one of the most spectacular things ive seen in my life

  9. Last tuesday night we got 9 inches of snow and me and about 9 of my friends all blazed a few blunts of some sour d and had a snowball fight with the night vision goggles you could have bought with modern warfare 2. Shit was funny as hell. I took a shot right in the balls. Thats right about when my fun ended.:D

  10. Excellent thread contribution. I call for a hasty experiment to be done on my balcony at once. Rolling up a doobie and grabbing my jacket right now.
