Newbie stealth grow help?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by tokd, Feb 2, 2011.

  1. Hi, Im new to grasscity and I really want to do a stealth grow. Im thinking of trying to do it in a computer case or a speaker. I have been gathering informations over the last week and have finally understood what lights i need.
    I have a few questions:
Can somebody tell me or link me a guide on how to set up lights, like can you buy a thing that plugs into a plug socket and has those things you plug lights into.
Im thinking of growing some sort of lowryder strain, should I get auto flowering or feminised or both if they exist and if auto flowering is sugested, what do I do with the light times, I know that for veg its 18/6 and to flower you change it to 12/12 with the 2700k lights.
I would need no smell so I will build a carbon filter, but I need help with setting up a fan system and keeping the noise under control,
Thanks a lot, sorry for being such a noob, I'm just really enthusiastic about growing as irish weed is dirt and a rip off.

  2. I dont know if this make any difference, but the lights im probly gona get are e27 and Im getting 2 30 or 45 watt ones.

You can get it all at ebay.co.uk mate. CFL lighting would be best, and you find the entire setup, reflector and wires included, at ebay. How about a 250w CFL in a speaker-box? :D

You will also get the fans you need, probably in the same hydro online store as the lights. If it's a very small grow, like a PC-cab, you could get away with a few PC-fans. I included a link anyways...

Personally I would go with the bigger setup.

I went and did the work for you... I dug up a few links: ;)

No, not really... Because you would get a more even light-distribution with more bulbs. But you would have to move them around more too, to get the optimal distance to the plant. If you only have one light at the top, the top would get most light and the bottom almost none.

The brightness is only 1/4 if you double the distance (the inverse square law). So if you have more bulbs with lesser wattage that would give you the opportunity to get light all around the plant, not just on top. But then there's an added cost of all the extra wires and sockets. I haven't calculated which is cheapest, I'll leave that part to you. :)

  6. Just one last question I, Think, thank you so much for your help. Will I be able to use e27 cfl lights with the envirolight hanger also it says its for 125w, 200w 250w, will it work with 30w 45w 15w? Thanks again. EDIT, I will get 2 light hangers, will those 2 work for the 2700k lights and the 6400k lights?

Sorry the 125w and up uses E40 sockets. There is no ballast needed for any of these. So the E40 is for the bigger ones and the E27 is for the smaller bulbs. E27 is the normal type socket... You can get some splitters, though.
    http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=e27+splitter&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=

And yes, if you get two, you could run one 6500K and one 2700K at the same time throughout the grow. With many smaller bulbs it will be easier for you to mix a near perfect light-spectrum, though. You can have a 35/65 ratio (or 20/80, 30/70, 40/60, whatever you want) of 2700K/6400K and then reverse the ratio when flowering comes.

You should know that you can get these color-temps on all of these CFL bulbs, so that won't really have an effect on what socket you need. That is only determined by what base the bulb has. E40 is for all the bigger bulbs, and E27 is for all normal standard house-hold bulbs, and the smaller CFLs. So you only need to decide if you want one/two big bulbs, or many smaller bulbs with some splitters and stuff...

PS: you could also get a socket-adapter, E40 to E27 or opposite...

  8. If you want to get the fans really quiet I recommend this article. I'm running a couple of PC fans that are pretty quiet ( about 7 dollars each ) but I reckon if I replaced them with a couple of 15-dollar ones from this article it might be virtually inaudible.
