Newbie Question

  1. It was my first attempt at growing this year all went well (four female plants). One was ready to harvest couple of weeks
ago and for the last few days I've been curing in a jar, I noticed there was 3 seeds in the bottome of the jar.
The plants haven't been near any male plants so my question is would those seeds be good to use next year
(I grow outdoors) or because they haven't had any male pollen would that make them useless.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

  2. Pollen can travel for miles, if you grow outdoor it's always possible to get seeded by rogue pollen.
Barring that; it's possible the plant, or another close by produced a single male flower in an inconspicuous spot and you didn't notice, I've had that happen. It was too late in flower to make seeds, I only noticed it on the finished bud. I also thought I read that some strains can /self/ without needing to turn hermaphrodite, I've never heard of it happening, but anything is possible. In either case, the seed should be fine, at least from my understanding. Keep in mind, even if it's good it would carry the trait that caused a female crop to seed in the first place, and it would likely be in all the offspring, increasing the chances of it happening again next year.

  3. I dont think parthenogenesis happens with cannabis, most likely it was rogue pollen of some hermie.

Ok thanks for the advice, I will give them a try but keep a good eye on them. These were four female plants that I had, so does that mean these seeds that have appeared will be female or is there no certainty of that.

  5. Seeds created from female pollen will be female, or hermaphrodite.
I read somewhere around these forums last night that there is an introduced male chromosome when the plant /selfs/, I think it was in one of the threads about feminised seeds, either in Advanced Grow Techniques or Breeding forums. Anyway, what was said was instead off XX + XX, it's XXy + XX, and the resulting male chromosome /is/ recessive, but not able to be bred out of the line, which would account for the seeds feminised this way having the tendency to grow male parts, and the random occurrence of hermies in seemingly non-contaminated lines even in good conditions. Sorry, rambling, just something to consider in case you wanted to keep using this line and it's off spring.

And thanks Grimm420, for not only adding a new word to my vocabulary, but for giving me the term to search for it myself. It seems to be general consensus that it's not possible for cannabis to self without pollen.

  6. Ok cheers gotta give them a try in March then and see what I get, otherwise the curiosity will kill me lol.
