Hi all, im wanting to start a grow soonish in a space big enough for about 4 plants. Firstly i want to know what type of strain would you recommend for a beginner like me cos i live in Leeds, England and theres not that many growers round here to seek advice from. Also would two 125W blue envirolites be sufficient for vegging and would that plus a 200W red envirolite be sufficient for flowerin?? I ask cos if these envirolites would be enough to do a whole grow with then i wouldnt have to pay for lights, my brothers mate is lending me em. I was gonna just go for it myself without gatherin any info apart from a growin guide so any advice is much appreciated. Ta very much, GGG
I recommend following Crush's tips in this thread. Feel free to ignore the stickies on this forum as they are fairly useless to the new grower except for perhaps the germination thread. In addition to Crush's observations, you have to bear in mind that in the online cannibis growing culture, there is a great deal of discussion but very little knowledge. You'll go far if you learn one simple truth: growing cannabis is highly technical and expensive. Judge the level of experience and technical know-how of all those who go to for information, and assimilate or reject the information accordingly. I recommend The Grow Report podcast as one of the few sources of technical information regarding our favorite plant that I can fully endorse. Also, be prepared to go to non-cannabis resources for information, as these tend to have a higher knowledge-to-noise ratio.
I don't know you rock, but taking a crush's tips is like playing russian roulette not something I'd advise someone to do. Infact, I read that thread and you seem to be the only one who agrees with him, whats up with that? As for lights, there's a lot of lights being used but the best is the MH and HPS HID lights, after that fluro's, cfls and leds(most expensive, most work involved setting up). As for the lights you mentioned, I'm not sure what 1s your talking about for your veg period, if they are the blue colored ones no. The 1 for flower sounds alright. As for strain, it depends on what you looking for. The nl is suppose to be easy growing, but I'm not into indica strains so I wouldn't know.
Lot of nonsense. Growing MJ is about as complicated as growing tomatoes, there are a few simple rules to follow, is all. But having said that, my pal is incapable of growing anything. This year my total costs were €15 for pots. €7 for compost. €18 for ferts. Hardly expensive, and not a bad outlay for a yield of four and a half pounds. What MJ DOES need is a load of TLC, but this costs nothing. Oh yes, and I left my comments on Crush´s ´tips´in that thread.
Characterizing marijuana cultivation as a simple operation is really pretty outrageous. Cannabis is very unforgiving to pH issues, diet, and environmental conditions, and is also very susceptible to disease and infestation. I don't doubt one could produce a sickly, marginal, stretched-out weed, provided one grows in soil -- growing with hydroponics with a similiar level of care would result in the quick death of the crop -- but I have to assume a new grower wants to produce a healthy and potent plant. Additionally, "TLC" doesn't adaquetly explain the level of care needed to closely monitor the wide range of metrics that go into cultivating a healthy plant; temputure, humidity, pH, nutrients, lumens, air circulation, and a host of other variables.
wow bro, you need to realize that at the root of it all, it is a plant, it has existed, and continues to exist without car at all, you are just making it a bit to complicated. it grows wild in parts of Ohio. OHIO. if it can do that, i don't think it really needs any of that shit.
Your Envirolites should be sufficient, but you'll want to invest in a light meter to make sure you are getting 2000-3000 lumens to as much leaf surface as possible. In order to maximize the use of that much light, you'll want a good nutriet diet, the easiest would be the Lucas formula, and in order to not kill your plant, you'll need to monitor the pH level of your solution and adjust as needed.
As I said those blue envirolites are no good. Get daylite CFLs instead. Even though I'm a diehard hydro grower, I would recommend for the first time soil, it is much more forgiving as spanish has pointed out and that shit about skinny ass plants, the medium has nothing to do with how skinny a plant is, Light does, the more light the healthier and bushier they will be. Nutes, you can do as spanishfly does and make your own or buy a good fert(MG, scotts and peters might be good for some plants, but MJ and them don't get along). The flora Nova is a good 1 part solution. Well kind of 1 part, as I recommend and so does the MFG to use floralicious as a suppliment for it. I like them because they are organicly based.
Where does this idea that FloraNova is organic comes from? You only need to glance at the label to figure out this is just not true, but I see this repeated over and over again, as if it had become some sort of widely accepted fact of the online community.
how much do daytime cfl's cost?? im suprised to hear that those blue envirolites arent any good, a few ppl i kno have used them for vegging then used hps for flowerin, they said they were alrite for the cost n efficiency
I agree 100% with nothing rockwell has said so far on these forums. If you check the link in my sig to My Girls, that is my first attempt at growing, i havnt posted new pics in a few days, but they are doing quite well. Crush's tips are garbage, complete garbage, following his assinine opinions will get you nowhere, he gives no viable info for a new grower. Use the search, you can fine plenty of great info that way. Measure twice cut once, look around here for the solution to your problems, just because one person did this doesnt mean you should. Doing what one person did and not reading on about how it killed his plant wont do you all too well. Use common sense. Theres reasons why folks around here like Mr.Postman, DierWolf, SpanishFly, Urgr8tstfear, Tetrahydracanabol, and many others have had extremely sucessful grows. If you get them in your thread to answer your questions, dont waste their time, use their minds to your advantage.
i just wanna point out that he never said 100% organic, he said organic based. organic based doesnt mean 100% organic...
ok ok i think i know what i need to do as far as starting the grow goes, i am just using this thread and these boards to gather info and advice before starting. This isnt really my first grow, its my first indoor grow. I grew early misty outdoors last summer with a friend quite successfully. We were happy to say that us Brits have very shoddy weather, we didnt have a clue about growing when we first planted but we used common sense. Growing indoors is never gonna be easy first time round but from what ive seen the more complex you make it, the more complex its gonna be, i jus wanna get one grow under my belt and some experience for next time round. I jus need some pointing in the right direction
I beg to differ - or maybe I have misunderstood. These two bulbs would be sufficient for growing a plant and possibly two. They will provide enough light, and combined with your 200w red spectrum bulb they could also provide enough light for flowering. Growing cannabis is essentially not very difficult, like Spanish said - and his opinion is definitely to be respected - it isn't called 'weed' for nothing. Growers in places like Morocco and Ghana grow some very nice buds in rubbish soil and with little or fairly inexpensive nutrients. All you really need for a first grow is a pot, some basic soil with no added nutrients and your lights. Nutrients will obviously improve your growing experience, but you could do OK without them. Good luck.
If you're in Leeds your probably growing indoors and are concerned about power consumption and utility bills. Not everyone can grow outdoors in warm climates for free. I personally recommend first looking at my tips. MJ is a hard, error prone plant to grow and takes a lot of learning. It's also expensive to get all the uquipment to get going. If you are going to grow in hydro you need many misc. items like PH/EC meter. Those will cost you $200 for anything decent. Then the air pump and stones another $20, then solution another $30, containers and pots $30. Fans and other misc items need to all be factored in. Especially if you need venititilation. Then the seeds etc. People easily spend well over $1000 after they are done their full setup. If you grow with soil, your Nute formula will drop your tap water down to a good PH without the use of a meter but expect more of a chance of bugs. You can grow this way and save a lot of money. The lights sound suffitient if they are CFL's and the area is small. Just don't expect a lot of bud. Also for God's sake start with NL#5 for odor reasons and know that the power can be so powerful on some strains (Sour Diesel) that it can 'penetrate through brick walls'.
Sorry Rockwell, I think you are making this just ssooooo difficult. I have a pH meter somewhere, haven´t used it for 3 years, but then MJ was growing millions of years before pH meters were invented. I have yet to measure temperature, humidity, pH, lumens, air circulation and a host of other variables. Mine grow in compost on my roof terrace, God gives me the temperature, pH, sunlight, wind, etc. How the hell did I get four and a half pounds of dried bud from 4 plants this year without all these meters?? No Idea, I just watered them and ferted them and talked to them every day. They just grew green and plump and healthy - God did the rest, I guess. And if He wants to come down for a spliff, He will be so welcome. Hallelujah!!!
