I am considering growing in one of the rooms in my home. I went into a hydroponics store today to get a feel of the prices on lights and etc. I have done a lot of research and have a lot of ABC guides to growing but I am still skeptical of my abilities to have a successful first grow. I want to attempt to grow 50-60 plants of a good strain. Probably Super Silver Haze, White Widow, and Himalayan Gold. It will most likely be a mix of the three. I am buying the seeds feminized from an online source. Here are some questions I would love to have answered. 1. I dont want to have to move the plants into larger pots during the grow. Will 2 gallon pots do the job or do I have to go bigger? 2. Lights. I have read from a few sources that to get the plants to flower in around 8 weeks they need a 1000 watt lamp. The area I have to work with is about 9x7 which will still leave a walkway through the room. At the hydroponics store the store owner told me that one 1000 watt lamp will cover 7x7. I have heard that I could go with lower wattage but I would have to keep the light closer to the plant. Will you please explain in detail what you think I would need exactly? I am looking to spend no more than $400 on light. 3. Smell. Do the Carbon Scrubber fans work? 4. The little things. If you have any advice or information I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
i would say 3-5 gallon pots. mine were in 2's and they stopped growing after a foot or two and as soon as i put them in 5's they started growing more..1000 watt might not be enough for 50-60 plants, thats alot... and you cant fit that many in a 9x7 in my opinion. i would try 20 but thats just me. you can get them to flower whenever you want- my roomate did after only 3 weeks, and mine have been 8 weeks and just now i started to flower them. if u get feminized seeds they will be female, if not they could be 50-50. and the males are un-usable. so if you start with 50 plants you will end up with 25 in theory. the small things: over-watering is the most common mistake i think.
Thanks for your input. I would love to hear a few peoples take on it. Aren't 3 gallon pots 12" by 12"? And what do you mean I can make them flower whenever I want? How does that work?
Looks like I'm on a good nutes soap box today for those asking for advice. I would go with bigger pots than smaller pots, always. Looks like you already got a response on the lights, so I won't repeat them. Carbon scrubber fans can work, but you'll never get rid of all the smell. That's something you need to remember. As for nutes, Advanced Nutrients is the best, in my opinion. Try out one of their basic bundles when you want to grow well. Today I purchased 60 seeds. 20 Super Silver Haze, 20 Himalayan Gold, 20 White Widow. What would be the best lighting for those? I am leaning towards having two 600 watt high pressure sodium lamps. Or maybe a 600 and a 400. Let me know what you think.
