Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by eddiee2423, Sep 6, 2011.

  1. I've been smoking for about 2 solid years so I wanna save money and grow.

Thinking of buying a 250w grow light, metalhalide bulb

just need some help on what types of fertilizer I should use and if i need some screens put up on the wall,

I have a perfect hanger at the top of my closet to hang the light up and fan .

need to know what kind of fan

starting out simple thinking of trying easy bud or 60 day wonder for starters

give me some tips like were to buy seeds and what not ...

  2. if you have a $300 budget might I suggest athe dirty dozen organic starter pack from HTG supply. Heres what you get

    Kit Includes:
400 watt Grow Light with Four Sided Horizontal Reflector
High Output High Pressure Sodium Bulb
High Output Metal Halide Conversion Bulb
    Heavy Duty Timer
Pair of High Low Reflector Hangers
Roots Organics Buddha Gow and Bloom
    2 Seed Starter 6 Packs
    12 THREE GALLON Grow Bags
    50' Roll of Reflective Mylar
    Thermometer / Hygrometer

All this for $259.45. It comes with the hps/halide conversion so you just switch out bulbs when you need to flower ;) Can't beat the price of this!

  3. that looks perfect but will they ship to mass?

  4. Yea, they are located in PA

  5. can you link me that kit and thanks man

  6. alright found it and do i need i tent or no .. or is there a way to make one

  7. If I may add to this, if you have a closet this is a great deal. Only thing you need to buy in addition to this is an inline vent fan and decent soil. 400w is an excellent light, you can pull half pounds every harvest, but it gets hot and needs a proper vent fan. Try to budget for $100-$120 for a decent vent fan.

You can skip out on a ph meter if you use lime in your soil, but I'd suggest a $25 Milwaukee (just use google shopping to find the cheapest)... works just as good as my $140 Hanna combo meter, just don't drop it in water :(

  8. You can make one out of 2x2 and plastic for a fraction of the cost, but if you have an empty closet even better.

  9. yah I have a completely empty closet about 4ft long , 2ft in , really tall. but would i need any plastic or grow tents if the closet is empty . sorry guys for my lack of knowledge about this stuff just completely new to growing.

    thanks people

  10. Not at all, but you will have to cut some ventilation holes. Some people cut holes in the door for intake and outtake vents because they rent or whatever and can easily replace a closet door when they move.

Putting a tent or box in a closet adds a few steps to the setup, you'll still need to vent the closet because heat will build up in there. Besides, with a 400w, you don't want to go any smaller than what you've already got.

  11. ok thanks a tun I really appreciate it not sure, I was thinking of ordering sour 60 from seed boutique , you think thats a starter plant / reliable website to ship to ma

  12. That is the same size as my closet, it works out decent without a tent, it just creates issues if you cant vent the hot air out of the closet and pull cool air in. Also, paint the inside flat white, or get some reflective material to hang up.

  13. Yeah how about I leave the closet door open a bit have a fan blowing air in and another fan inside the close blowing air out

I've only grown a few strains and I've never used seed boutique, but as long as you put time and effort into your grow, it'll be the best smoke you've ever had ;)

One other thing I want to share with you, every nutrient line is a little different... and everybody has their favorites, but no matter which one you choose adding powdered dolomite lime to soil will go a looooooong way towards keeping your plants healthy. I use 1 cup per cubic ft or 2 TBSP per gal of soil, so if you're using a 1.5 cubic ft bag of soil, add 1 1/2 cups lime and mix it in good.

Lime adds calcium and magnesium to your soil, 2 minerals that flowering cannabis uses in abundance (calcium more than mag, 3-1). As your plants take these alkaline minerals out of the soil, the soil PH drifts towards acidic, leading to nutrient lockout. In the proper ratio, lime slowly replaces these minerals as your plant absorbs them, keeping your soil PH stable. That's why I said you don't really need a PH meter, but it's good to have.

    Happy growing!!! :smoke:

edit: dolomite lime @ home depot, $3.50 for 40 lbs

  15. It may help, but what will happen is the hot air blowing out will help to raise the temperature of the room you are pulling air in from. Running a/c in that room will help to offset some of the heat, but it wont be as efficient as it would if you can vent the hot air to a different area than where you are getting your cool intake air from. I run one 4" intake tied into my home a/c duct under the house, and two 2" intakes from the outside and then use a 6" 424 cfm fan to vent the hot air into my attic. It ends up working well for me, temps stay about 79 with the closet door closed. It may not be in your budget right now, as it wasnt in mine either, but the best way to help offset some of the heat is a air cooled hood. Once again though, the hot air needs to be exhausted to a different area if at all possible.

  16. Another problem with leaving your door open for ventilation is during flower... light leaks will extend your flowering time, and the longer you flower, the more likely your plant will grow pollen sacks and go "hermie". So don't forget to close the door at lights out :)

  17. tru tru both of you are right , one of my friends who has more experience at growing than me is going to come over and help set up and what not but just from reading you not sure and you joker's advice , my understanding about growing has boosted 100% ty!
