New soil mix and pH issues

  1. Hi, am planning on mixing Fox farm Ocean Forest, Perlite, and coco coir and was wondering first what ratio I should be aiming for when I mix these. Also is there any pH concerns with mixing these I heard that the coco could possibly do that.

  2. Go by what YOU like. Get a soil meter ($20 at your local hydro store) and check your ph when you're done. It doesn't really matter as much what you grow in as say, nutrients or water or lighting. Just do what you feel comfortable with.

The more coco and perlite you put in will make your soil retain more water. Just don't use too much!!! Good luck GB.

  3. Thanks for the reply. I understand basic soil structure and biology but people I have talked to makes it sound like more of an exact science when it comes to making a medium. Thanks for clearing up my brain I can finally rest now.

  4. Some people will argue to the grave that their exact soil recipe is what makes their bud what it is... Sure, it is a piece of the puzzle, but there are more important things that you should pull your stress from. If it works for you, that is all that matters.

Good luck and PM me with your grow page once you get going.
