I just built a new grow room for my flowering plants, it is 4 feet wide about 4 feet deep and 7 feet tall. My question is with an ebb and flow flood and drain system how many plants should i grow in a 4x3 tray? i was gonna do twenty and try and maximize my yield, but now reading about fimming, topping, LST, and SCROG i think that is way to many plants any suggestion. (I have a 1000w HPS light). One more thing is, out of all the plant training techniques, which would be the best for my situation. i want maximum yield and very potent MJ, since it is for my roommates and i we dont want low quality product.
first off you have to understand that u will find what works best for you. but in a space like that you should scrog or lst . also it sounds like ur kinda new, you said new grow room like u may have done this before, but also said u just read about fim top and lst. so if you are kiss it. to answer ur ? I would do anywhere from 4 to 10 plants for a space that size. top feed and go coco.
ebb n flow is fine. i wouldn't but more than 10 plants in there and that still might be a few too many. if you know how to train the plants using lst or scrog then id put 6 in there. it all depends on what you really want. good luck
flood and drain is fine its just more stuff to buy and if you are really new at this I would suggest just hand watering in coco to start. hydro is great but can be daunting ebb and flow is easy. but there is no easy sure fire way to get great yields. it takes trial and error. and starting with hand watering in coco is pretty easy, mix and water. where ebb and flow you got a rez and ph swings and pumps. kiss keep it simple stoner.
I have done coco before. Im moving up to hydro because i finally got a bigger space. I have done alot of research and have some outside help so Im pretty sure I got it under control. The number of plants to use in a 4x4 area is my only question. everyone says 15+ plants can fit then people say 6 plants max so i just need some re-assurance. and some reasoning behind it so i have a better ideaa...
You can do ten. I would do six just so everything is organized and easier to clean. Another thought I have is your 1000watts might be to much for that space in terms of heat if your are not venting.
I will definitely be venting. One more question is would the yield be higher if i did ten plants compared to six or would six plants get me just as much as ten would with that light.
If you scrog do about 6 plants because they will really grow horizontally, you get real nice colas and I have seen people claim 2 ozs per square foot so 16 x 2 Is 32 ozs, this is of course if you do everything right and have enough time to train them all good luck!
I have the same grow room set up coming and im planning on doing 10 plants. Im thinking as long as spacing is ok, you would have a better harvest with 10 than 6. Long as heat can be regulated
well looks like im gonna do ten then cant wait for my guys to get some roots haha
Sweet! Gonna start a grow journal? ?
You can definitely run 20, it's a matter of veg time, give em 2-3 weeks (from cutting them) to root and then just a tiny bit of growth and switch em to flower. I wouldn't recommend that method of growing though unless you're using clones so you know what you're getting... but SOG is a very easy method for achieving yield and with an ebb/flow it's very simple since you're only managing the one reservoir - having less plants and using LST, scrog or any other training method will only add more work in and more time vegging for the same or even less yield.

Another reason why I asked earlier how big you were gonna make them. But this is a great point as well. but would work best with several clone clippings
they are all clones and we will most likely only use clones. So now im confused ur saying i should vegg them for a shorter period and use LST for a better yield. And will making the plants veg shorter affect the quality of the flower, like i said its for personal use its just for my whole house haha and we all have our recommendations dont worry haha.
