(Grasshoppers) Durchii's post reminded me to throw up some recent bugs, these are grouped for your pleasure. (Walking Sticks mating) (Long Legged Fly) (Moth?) (Katydid) (Swallowtail?) (Damsels) (Lunch) (Common White Butterfly) Thanks for looking.
pictures three and four are the best i've seen yet from you. very nice (edit pictures changed to the first two..)
Of all of them, these have to be my favorites. Everything is great, composition, colors, clarity.. it all fits. Great stuff. That A100 is really impressing me, and you as well.
you should submit these to national geographic. I am sure they have big prizes for amatuer photography contests, like flying you all over the world to take pictures, and lots and lots of awesome camera equipment.
You think? Thanks man...maybe I will. I think maybe I need to further sharpen my skills, buy/learn how to use some further equipment...but jeez...that would be my absolute dream job. Thanks for the encourgement.
Those are my favorites. The Katydid is like "Hey guys! What's going on?" I also liked (lunch) that really caught me off guard seeing that. And those are beautiful moths. Honeycomb eyes, so cool.
Those are insane, I'd love to get pictures like that. How close are you physically getting the camera to the subject? I can never get close enough for macros like that without the damn things flying away.
dude... i think it may actually be possible for your camera to photograph a single atom... just kidding, but those pictures are awesome. what exactly are you shooting with? im looking to replace my current camera and im allways intersted to see what really great photos are shot with.
Hey thanks a lot you guys...I'm shooting with a Sony A-100/Tamron macro lens. The trick is I think, developing/having tons of patience, you should sort of expect most of your shots to get ruined by the bug suddenly flying off or changing it's pose. You can expect to shoot (and delete) hundreds of frames to get a few usable images. (Thank god for digital) BUT, it is pretty thrilling when you know you have some keepers burried on your memory card. Digital darkroom stuff is an artform in it's self. edit-Hey Junkiedays, I really got close on most of these, the lens was almost touching the bugs! The biggest problem at that focal distance (beyond your subject flying away) is light, the pop up flash often falls short at this distance, so some other fill flash (ring mount or hot shoe) is on my list of shit I gots to get!
Yeah, I hear that. I end up with a lot of macro pictures where the flash just falls short. I guess I'll have to try and get closer to my subjects. Damn flying animals.
WHOAH! I literally shouted out loud when i saw the picture of that spider munching the dragonfly. For serious mang, these are awesome. Plus rep for sure. Edit: Gotta spread that junks It's the thought that counts, huh? : /
Ha! Thanks Durchii. Hey if you ever find yourself in the Chicago area, maybe we can go shooting and trade macro tips!
