Hey guys, I am just starting flowering on my second grow. My first grow was done completely under CFLs and turned out reasonably well (two VERY small LST bagseed plants). I ended up with about 2 ounces. I just purchased a Sun Systems 150w HPS for my new flower box. I was wondering (although it doesn't really matter since I already bought it) if that would produce enough light for two small plants using the scrog method. The strain is White Widow. Keep in mind that the box is about 1.5'x1.5' and 3' tall (micro grow). I have a small pc fan for ventilation and am using botanicare pure blend pro bloom. This light is rated to produce 16,000 lumens. Thanks in advance, -jD
I grow in a space of about the same size. I have 240 watts of CFL and I had heat issues with only one pc fan. I ended up having to add two- three inch forced air intakes and one 4 inch exhaust. I think the 150w hps is going to put out much more heat. Might need more adequate ventilation.
New gardner here too...I really don't know how big the heat issue is. My temps are running between 80 and 88 degrees, and the plants seem to be thriving, growing ok. Is THC production a function of temp? I don't know. I used to raise ostrich...and incubated the eggs in the same room where my garden is. Found a quick way to exhaust or bring in air is with a bathroom fart sucker....exhaust fan (sorry, as I get older my dialogue gets rather gross). That is an easy setup...Too, I've a vornado window fan that pivots to either bring in air or exhaust air...another simple setup. My (2) centavos...
The heat has not been a problem. The 150w HPS produces much less heat than my CFL veg box. I am more interested in whether or not this will be enough light, keeping in mind how small the box is. Thanks, -jD
i have the same light as you do but in a 250w... im running a 4" vortex fan to exaust my room. i have a 6" fan for a intake and a 12" fan in side the tent for circulation... my hut is 4ft x 2ft x 5ft and the 250 will cook my tent to 92* if the house ac isnt on during mid day...sooo i dont see how a small pc fan works, especially in a small box like yours.. for 2 plants in that small of a area your 150 should be fine.... keep a eye on your temps
Ha, sorry, by PC fan I meant 6" inch circular that is mounted on the wall to bring in air, then there is a small exhaust hole in the top of the box. I assure you it is not above 85 degrees. Thanks, -jD
