Hi, I'm a regular smoker and I found a seed in one of my buys and decided I would try to grow to see how it goes, hopefully to save money! Well anyway this is what I got: I don't plan on getting too into growing but just a personal plant? All I have is a few pots that I will move it to maybe today, and a light I think it's a cfl, sorry for my lack of experience, it has been a week since I planted it and I feel as if I have very good progress. Photo from this morning, it is on 24 Hours of light with regular watering and in a heated room. Any comments/advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
How close should it be, as of right now I am using a table lamp with the "twisty bulb" again I apologize for my lack of knowledge, but I will learn! And it is right over the plant about 6-8 inches away
6 is fine for now she is still young but as she grows her second and third node the lights need to increase and get closer for optimum growth
Okay, should I be keeping the light on constantly as I have been? And I'm sorry but what are nodes? Thank you
Lights can be on 24 hours a day. More experienced growers run on an 18/6 light schedule for vegetative growth. A node is where new growth comes from. Your plant starts with round leaves. Then a pair of the pointy pot looking leaves. Second node. When another pair appear across from those. Third node.
Okay, thank you for the help! I'm going to keep this thread updated with my pictures, and soon I'll have the plant in my permanent grow space. How does it look for having been in soil for a week?
It's fine a little stretched from the light hight. But healthy. What soil is she in? Please don't tell me miracle grow
Good luck then. This is where in gonna part ways with ya. That soil causes problems that I just don't want to get into. Good luck and be safe
Alright, I'm going to try and help you as much as I can. The lights you use for the vegetative state are going to be much weaker than the ones you need to use for flowering. You will actually want to get either some T5 tube lights online, or three CFLs, which you will have to keep VERY close to the plants and spread the light out evenly. Your best bet if you can spare the money would be a HPS/MH light. A lot of people think that they are some kind of challenge, if you build them yourself yes, but you can buy them set up for you where all you have to do is put the bulb in, plug it up and go. For a 400w ballast bulbs and hood will be about 250, you can get them on Amazon. You will also want to transplant into some new soil ASAP, or that Miracle Grow will kill your plant, or stunt its growth and make it an overall unhealthy plant. Get some Organic potting soil from the store. Growing is going to take a little more work than some people think, and a small investment, but its so worth it. If you just throw a plant in some dirt and grow it with minimum light you may only get a few grams if you are lucky. Also, whenever you get into using nutrients always remember, HALF of what is recommended, most nutrients are balanced for Tomato and Pepper plants, so always use HALF of whats suggested. I grow hydro, and I like it better than soil, mainly because of the 3 month harvests instead of the long harvest of soil grows. This will also take more money, so I would suggest just doing soil, although, hydro systems are rather cheap. You can get a bucket, water pump, air pump, and a bubble disk, some tubing and voila. Anyway, if you want to dive into the world of growing I would highly suggest it, its a great addiction, and you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor, and maybe make some money if you want ;]
Thanks! Your the second that has told me not to use miracle grow, but I have also read it works wonders for others, would you be able to clarify what's bad about it? From my standpoint it seems like an argument over penziol and valvoline for you car How long does a plant need to vegetate before its ready to flower?
Let me be the third . the main issues with miracle grow is it is full of time release ferts that are A. Not designed for pot growing, and B. if you get a deficient or overdose it will be much harder to correct. Also it tends to be acidic and lack proper PH buffers. It can work but it is far from ideal for pot growing.
Well this isn't fresh out of the bag, my parents used it over the summer, and as we cleaned out all of the pots as the cold hit we just dumped the soil out on the ground, then I came back and scooped some out, so is it possible that most if not all of the bad things have already been used? Here are some pictures as I get home to check on it, this one from my first post was this morning, these are 8 hours after
Well, the fact of the matter is it doesn't have some essential nutrients that other Organic soils will, or Fox Farms Soil (the best as far as I've heard) or get some organic, mix some earthworm castings and bat guano in xD You can veg forever if you want, I'd veg at least 8 weeks in soil. Then your flowering is going to take 8 weeks or more as well.
