New Grow

  1. I just want to say thanks to everyone in this forum for the advice that I read. The only thing that I have been able to think about is growing weed for the past week. I can't even concentrate at work. I just started my grow and purchased a 250 watt MH lamp. I'm only starting out with 3 plants, is that going to be enough wattage?

  2. welcome to the city! sure your 250 will be enough to get you started with some nice dense undergrowth. only advice i can offer you though, is to read, then read and then read some more, kinda helps when you have the concept

  3. Thanks for the info. I was also thinking about getting a 250 watt HPS lamp to use for the flowering stage in a seperate grow box. Is it necessary to have an HPS lamp for flowering or will the MH lamp work for flowering also?

  4. Metal Halide will be ok for flowering but if you used an h.p.s your yield should be a little bigger or more compact.

  5. Thanks Dutch Dragon! I think I will try the MH for my first batch and maybe for round two I will shell out the dough for the HPS.

  6. Thanks for the advice Bob.

Do you think that a 400 watt HPS will be enough? My wife said that I am only allowed to grow 4 plants at a time, so it's going to be a pretty small crop.

I'm still waiting on my MH lamp from Insidesun.com... They charged my card on Tuesday but their order tracking says that it hasn't been shipped yet. I feel like Ralphie from "A Christmas Story" waiting on his Little Orphan Annie decoder ring!

    Cheers

  7. yes the 400 hps will be more than enough. :) your wife is allowing you 4 plants? how generous of her! you could produce a sizeable amount with the right conditions. my last grow was 4 plants, i didnt reach my potential, but i still am not unhappy with whats to come. my next gro has been cut into half to 2 plants. (same situation) but to make the most of the limitations, ill just grow them bigger and scrog for maximum production. im aiming for 5-6 oz off of 2 plants and a 400 hps. ill have a new journal started soon.

  8. on that note, are you only allowed to start off 4 at a time? if so? your chances of getting a female drops to 50%, if possible see if she'll let you start 8 and weed them down to your 4.

  9. Once again, I'm tremendously grateful for everyone's advice.

I've tried to explain to her that we need to start off with more plants until we get a mother plant to take cuttings from, but she won't budge. She knows that I have an overzelous personality and our entire basement will look like a tropical jungle if she doesn't keep me in check (and shes probably right).

    Here's my plan:
keep all the plants in the first grow box with the MH lamp until I can tell their sex. If I get a female I will move her to the grow box with the HPS lamp, but still keep the males in the MH grow box. I've read that you are supposed to destroy the males once you can tell their sex, but it just seems wrong to kill a plant that will still produce some bud. I just don't think I will have to worry about them spreading their seed if they are in seperate grow boxes.

If I don't get any females then I guess I will just start over...

  10. the reason that most people don't grow the males is because they aren't very potent at all. hardly worth the trouble. that space could be used for new babies!

  11. What a glorious day!!!

I just got my 250 watt MH lamp from insidesun.com... The only problem is that they sent me a HPS bulb instead of a MH bulb. However, they were friendly and cooperative when I called and explained the problem. They said they will send me the correct bulb on Monday.

I guess I can atleast start building my grow box since I have the exact size of the lamp.

  12. dude, just keep the HPS :-D

  13. yes! pleeze do keep the hps bulb! you can veg with floros. provides the same spectrum, and you can get the floros as close as you want.

  14. The HPS bulb doesn't work with the MH socket.
