New grow

  1. I'm looking to start a grow closet in my third floor empty shower. It's a little bigger than a closet but this is my first attempt. I've been looking into 5 gallon DWC and wanted to figure out how many plants I can grow in each bucket. I also plan on starting from seeds in rockwool cubes. Any other info I can get would be great.

  2. I'm on my first dwc and i will tell you first hand don't put two in one bucket...mine are already going to have problems running into each other and I might have to scrogg the plants a little before flowering to get light to all parts of the plants. plus two root mass's are fighting for room in the bucket and the nutrients go a lot quicker. I have one taller then the second but you can't boost the short one up to the lights without frying the tall one...Main thing i can tell you from this first dwc grow is keep it simple and you want your cubes to be an inch or two from the top of the water (room for them to grow down into the nutes and the bubbles) and keep top feeding them until the roots get down in the solution..(2 to 3 times day),if they are seedlings use just water and i put some thrive in the mix too and that really helps the roots..Thrive doesn't have nutes really, just a bunch of minerals and staroids and such to boost the plant.

A little tip to save on stress, if you aren't using a reservoir and connecting all the buckets together and are using single buckets i found an easyer method to watching the water levels and checking ph without having to lift the top off the bucket with the plant in it...

Drill and small hole in the bottom and put a rubber grommet (rubber seal like an O ring) in the hole and put a rubber hose in it running up the side.. Anytime you need to check the solution inside, i lift the bucket handle holding the hose up right and lower the hose. the water pressure inside will force the water to run out the hose and when you want it to stop lift the hose back up and put the bucket handle over it to hold it up...Its my first dwc grow and i don't have a pump yet so i'm doing it this way till i can do a reservoir

  3. It all depends on your lights? What are you planning to run? It really comes down to how much light you'll be giving them and the size of the area.
