New grow room, need some advice.

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by plugged, Oct 14, 2007.

  1. It's in a spare closet. What I plan to use as the flowering chamber is 2ft deep, 4ft wide, and about 5ft tall (pictures below). There is half the closet with lots of 1ftx1ft shelves, and a smaller area (where the computer is sitting on the bottom left) that I haven't measured that I'm considering using as a veg/clone room. I was also thinking the shelf above it could be used as that. The smaller shelves I have no plans for.

The real walls will be covered in styrofoam insulation sheets. Reflective & helps with temp. The artificial wall on the right, to hide the water heater, will be plywood with styrofoam tacked to it.

Just wondering what kind of suggestions you guys have, this is the first time I've set up my own grow room and would like to make sure it's done right. What sort of lights would you suggest for the flowering room? I'm not looking to go all out on this one as it's only temporary, and I'd like to do it SOG style.

    Pictures:

1st & 2nd are the section I'd like to use for flowering. The shelf can be removed if necessary.

The 3rd and 4th ones are the unmeasured parts I may use for veg/clones/mother plants.

  2. if 2 ft. floro's will work then i would use that for vegging. as far as the main concern in your grow room i would go wayyyyyyy over board with ventilation considering its size and the fact you have a water HEATER in the same room. but id say make your veg area about 1/4 of your total space then Flower with the rest of it. btw i see no reason a 250W HPS with proper ventilation wouldn't work in this scenario

  3. Definitely gonna vent the hell out of it. That's a given. The heater itself doesn't produce much heat, the pipes are barely warm to the touch and the tank itself is cool to the touch. I'm going to double up on the styrofoam insulation used on the fake wall though, for exactly that.

I'm planning on using CFLs for veg/clone/mothers, warm and cool for the best results is what I've heard. I've never used that method before, but I'll definitely try it.

As far as the HPS.. You sure a 250 would work? If the goal is 50+ lumens psf, wouldn't I want a 400?

  4. yes a 400 would rock a 250 and the more lumen's the merrier but just keep in mind the temp in that room. i know your h20 heater doesn't put off much heat but 4-8 degrees can make a difference in transpiration. so Vent that baby like no other and get a 400 watter on the job. Possibly you could work some sort of secondary ventilation into the water heater room that just piggy backs onto your main exit vent?

  5. There's a top shelf that you can't see in the pictures. I was thinking of laying styrofoam on it and have the ducting lay on the styrofoam. That should help with noise/vibrations. I was thinking of making the ducting go to the far left of the closet, on the top shelf, and out the top for exhaust, with an intake spot on the floor. Think that'll be enough? I'm not sure what kind of fan to use for the ventilation though. Any suggestions?

I won't know about the temps with the water heater until I try it, just gotta get it set up first and work out any bugs as I go, before I move plants in there. I'm sure I'll be able to get enough ventilation & airflow in the room to keep the temps reasonable.

Where would I get the kind of ducting & fans needed to design that though? I haven't done this kind of setup before. Trying to avoid grow shops unless I absolutely have to go to one.

  6. http://www.fantech.net/ hopefully that will help. but as far as the design goes thats something your going to have to work out.

  7. I have some ideas. I'll try to take pictures and edit in where it'd go :)
