New Grow: CFL height?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Cow Robot, Mar 14, 2016.

  1. Ok.. I finally got my 250 watt Apollo Horticulture CFL bulb up and running ... Only problem is.
I have my CFL on a lighting-Tripod. and I'm about 2 feet above the plant. Is this ok while my plant is just a sprout? I am sure it will hit the sweet spot (lighting height) eventually? In case you were wondering the Tripod
is at it's lowest setting and I can raise it to about 5ft

  2. Need assistance... please help

  3. As long as you have a fan blowing over the top of the canopy (not on the canopy) to keep the temps cool you can keep at as close as you want, probably 3-5 inches at that age depending on how many bulbs and the wattage though cfls are weak so should be fine. Otherwise the plant will stretch.

  4. Oh i just read its a 250w. They create decent heat i would keep it at 2 feet and lower it a little as it grows till around 3-5 inches just keep the canopy temps cool like i said.

  5. If it's just a sprout, or up to 21 - 23 days from sprouting, I would just use a small cfl, something like a 23w 3 inches from the top of your baby because the plant doesn't really need that much light right now. Seriously, I have done repeated side by side seedling tests, using 1 - 23, 3 - 23(s), and 4 - 23(s), and up to day 23, they all have pretty much grown at the same rate every time. Yeah, after that, when the roots finally grow enough to take in more nutrients, more light does matter, but not until day 21 - 23.

Update, I am currently using 500 watts of CFL 2 bulbs to sprout the seed. I have noticed it has grown at
2-3 times the rate is I had only used a 23watt cfl. I'll stick with i... I do have concerns though
    1. I don't have a grow tent, and the light can be seen eminating from my bathroom window. For this reason
I can only do a 12/12hour light cycle from sprout. If it turns my cannabis plant into a hermie I will just start over
once I get enough funds for a grow tent.. Otherwise, soil, lighting, and closet are all looking good.

any help would be greatly appreciated. (PS) I will post pics in a few days

  7. I use a similar setup, but you can get a piece of paneling to cover the window, line it with foil or paint it white. I'm in Oregon so I don't care if anyone sees the light, but you want to capture that light anyways. Good luck!

  8. It may not hermie but if it isn't a sativa it will flower when its still very small and you will get almost nothing off it.
