New Crohn's Sufferer

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by Snakeman, Jan 30, 2008.

  1. After seeing all the medicinal users, I decided to join GC. It is so refreshing to see others who recognize the incredible benefits of cannabis. I'm a college student who has been using mj for medicinal uses for the past year and half. I was originally diagnosed with IBS, which was then changed to severe IBS, then tests finally diagnosed it as Crohn's ileitis. I'm currently on prescription medication, which does very little so far compared to the wonders cannabis performs on the GI system. Hopefully my state, NJ, will legalize medicinal users soon; however I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for reading.

  2. I got severe IBS and the medicine really helps me and the edibles help alot

  3. Find work in Cali your destined to live there.

  4. Do what you can in your area. More states need to put pressure on the gov. Get in touch with Americans for safe Access: www.safeaccessnow.org

  5. ha whats up crohns.
i have crohns too and despite all the meds theyve put me on, the steroids, the bullshit piles of pills i have to take,
none of it can fix the pain like good ol marijuana
i just wish az would loosen up on the laws. az is one of the toughest states on mj laws and it fucking sucks.

the two months i was on probation and having to be drug tested (i was arrested for half a bowl of mj. coooool huh), my crohns worsened significantly. coincidence? probably not.

  6. My brothers just been diagnosed with Crohns disease too, Im a twin brother and he's 8st 11lbs whereas im 11st 7lb (used to be 12st)

Hes on an 8 week cycle of steriods plus some other new stuff he got today. apparently he has it quite bad (probably due to not picking it up earlier) and hes even been asked to try experimental talbets. the new tablets are maintence tablets that he has to take to hopefully keep it at bay.

Funny thing is I went open to him about my MJ use and he started trying it and it helped his appitite loads but he didnt like coming down from the high he said his stomach started hurting again as soon as the high was wearing off and it felt worse because it went away for a couple of hours.

Hes loads better, the steriods have helped loads his appitite is up loads, better than mine (kinda worried about myself although doctors say its slim for someone else in your family to get it)

How are you anyway? I wouldnt mind more info to educate me , plus I dont know anyone else that has it.

I was so worried for my brother, Ive cried over it (yes Im still a man) I thought he had an eating disorder and so did my family

my mum has IBS though and she has had gall (sp) stones and had them removed also.

  7. FlyUntilYuCrash you are so right about the Az MJ laws they are so dam strict, I was diagnosed with crohns 5 years ago its a hard thing to deal with. I like to talk to other people with crohns to see what they are taking and whats working for them.

  8. I also forgot, How long have you guys had Crohns disease?

Any info on how you cope day to day and how badly does it effect you.

    Cheers

  9. I believe I've had Crohn's for about two years. My symptoms were relatively minor at first and progressive got worse. I finally ended up in the hospital this past December because of the pain and I was properly diagnosed with Crohn's.

I started smoking occasionally freshman year of college and happened to smoke one day when I was having nasty pains. After 2-3 decent hits I felt fine. After that day, and lots of research, I decided to start self medicating and have been ever since. In my experience indica strains or indica dominant hybrids help the most. I typically smoke 5-7 times a week, although that number can increase/decrease if I'm feeling worse/better. When I'm having a bad relapse I'll loose almost all of my appetite, have severe pain, and start rapidly loosing weight (usually 9-13 lbs in two weeks or so). This is when I smoke multiple times daily to help my appetite/pain. I really don't know what I'd do without mj during relapses.

It's nice to see others are trying to live productive lives even with a troublesome disease. Keep safe and keep on tokin.:smoking:

  10. I've had Crohn's since I was about 10, and I'll be 20 this year. I've been on all sorts of medicine, including steroids/prednisone which do help, but make you look puffy and can be dangerous if on them too long or maybe coming off of them the wrong way. Steroids helped with my weight issues to an extent, but I couldn't be on them forever so they put me on azathioprine for a while which I think is just supposed to reduce the chance of flare-ups. I managed to get my weight up to around 90 lbs (I'm 5'6") without smoking marijuana. However, about a year ago I just recently discovered marijuana and its helpfulness for Crohn's so I started using it and stopped taking Azathioprine. I'm been only smoking for about 6 months now and have managed to get my weight up to 110. Unfortunately I live in Oklahoma and we have very strict marijuana laws. 6 months probation, fines, lawyer fees, drug tests, AA classes all for a small blunt.

  11. My sister found out she had it in 5th grade when she had stomach aches all the time. Since Crohn's is very hard to find it got really bad for her so he had to have surgery to remove two feet of her intestine.

Since she is two years older than me, once I started to feel bad they caught my Crohn's really fast and mine is under control since i take 12 pills each day. I am 18 now and I started to smoke when I was a freshman in high school. I have always heard about medical but i never thought Crohn's was listed under it untill a couple months ago I was soo surprised. I also cant believe how many people on here have Crohn's or IBS which is pretty much the same thing I hear.

  12. Wait a second. Are you honestly saying that medical marijuana can be prescribed for Crohn's? I was diagnosed with it about five years ago, and haven't heard anything to this effect. Is it the truth? Please tell me it is!

  13. Magicblunt & chris:

Yes, Crohn's is definitely a condition for which medicinal marijuana is prescribed in a medicinal state. IBD and IBS prescription medications are still in their early stages. Some individuals find very little, if any relief with pharmaceuticals. I'm one of those people; I recently stopped taking my prescription (Pentasa) due to a few adverse side effects and a lack of any positive results. I do recommend researching probiotics. These are beneficial bacteria which show much promise in helping those with IBD/IBS. I'm not a fan of pharmaceuticals, so I'm trying the organic route of probiotics/marijuana. Cannabinoids (compounds in marijuana which help many diseases) are starting to get more attention for their aid in treating IBD, obesity control, cancer therapy, and other diseases. Hope that helped.

  14. az does suck for weed laws i go through it every day

  15. I took Pentasa for years. As a matter of fact, I have a bottle of it right here... About a year ago I decided it wasn't doing much for me, and have been unmedicated (except for chronic) since then.

  16. we need to start a crohn's section apparently cause i was diagnosed about a year ago and im still struggling with it, luckily i have mary jane on my side. i dont know how i would survive with out it. and i live in georgia so im screwed on medical mj. i plan on movin thou, really waiting on tennessee to legalize.

  17. I've had crohn's ever since i was 11, i've been on everything from pentasa to remicade and nothing has worked. When was 15 is started to smoke weed daily just with my friends cuz i just liked to be high. But after a while i noticed that i hadn't had any pains or flare ups for a long time, lets just say the only meds i take now ae some good ol' dank.
