New build problems

  1. So I've recently just build a new pc and I've had a few problems. First of I will list my specs:

    Gigabyte z33 d3h mobo
    I5 2500k CPU
    2 x 4gb vengeance ram

So my problem is when trying to turn it on I can't get it to POST. The PSU fan starts spinning, then the CPU fan struggles to start up for a few seconds and then eventually does, the whole time there is no signal to the monitor. Sometimes when i plug the monitor in the PSU and CPU will both stop. I've tried troubleshooting with everything outside of the case with just 1 stick of ram etc. but have had no luck. I know for a fact it's not my PSU because I've tried 2 different ones. Anyone have any ideas?

Also I had another mobo previously but the CPU led light would flash when trying to start up, the mobo did have a few bent pins in th socket, I'm hoping this is the reason and not a faulty CPU chip.

    Appreciate any help :smoke:

  2. So when you put that i5 2500k cpu into another motherboard, it still doesn't boot up. What does that tell you? Which makes more sense? Two bad mobos or 1 bad cpu?

  3. why the fuck would you put a CPU in a mobo with bent pins?

that could ruin the CPU i thought

You sure you lined up the arrows on the socket and Cpu correctly and didn't force anything?

The tiny conductors on the socket could get bent, but if they were you should have either returned the motherboard or worst case scenario straightened them out with tweezers. They have to be all perfectly aligned because there is very little space between the lands on the Cpu.

Shorting any of those lands together would screw something up.

Also, any chance you forgot to plug in the 4 or 8 pin Cpu power connector? That could cause some screwy stuff

  5. Yeah I know that just wanting to try anything without having to send it back

  6. Had no idea the pins were bent until it didn't boot up

  7. Pin alignment has to be perfect. Look down each row and then turn 90 degrees and do the same to ensure the pins are not bent.

  8. The mobo i have at the moment doesn't have any bent pins, the previous one came like that when I naively bought it from eBay
