Never grown before!! Need help designing closet space!

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Em_J, May 28, 2009.

  1. So next year Im planning on making a closet set up in my apartment. It will be ran by a 600W HPS bulb Im inheriting from my brother and I can grow up to 6 unless restrained by area issues. I have a few questions though.

Since it will be in a closet what will I need? The ventilation is the part that scares me most. I want to keep this pretty stealth so in your opinion do I need carbon filters or will odor sanitizers work fine for handling the smell?

What is the best way to provide ventilation if this is in a closet? Ive never grown before but I assume the door to the closet can't be left open with a fan in front because of light issues, also the light will be pretty disturbing to someone sleeping in the room.

Maybe someone could send me to a similar build. This wont be done until after summer so I have a while to plan.

Overall Im looking for a good value setup. Im willing to spend money and make this thing legit, but obviously I dont want to spend unnecessary cash.

Lastly I have not seen how big the closet will be; its's not walk in, so if I can only fit say 4 plants, is 600W too much and will it burn them or does more care just need to be taken to keep the room cool?

    Thanks guys, great site.

  4. Your going to need more than 1 fan..1 fan for vent..1 fan for intake..and probably another one ociltating(sp).

Im planning it like this right now:

Carbon Filter -> Reflector -> Centrifuge Fan (4") -> Out tent
Then one ?Axial? on the bottom of the tent in the intake (4")
Then an oscilating blowing over the plants

Would this be all I need?
Would a duct fan be better for the intake on the Growlab?

    Thanks

  6. A simplified drawing of what Im thinking. Let me know if it will work or what changes should be made. I appreciate it.

  7. Is this the acutal closet your using? If you want help I suggest you gut this closet out, clean it up and take a close-up pic, from what i see this would be perfect for a grow:D

  8. No, this is a picture of the type of closet its going in. It's my friend's girlfriend's closet right now which is the same as I will have next year. Hence the girly mess :D

Im pretty set on just purchasing a GrowLab120 and throwing it in there. The "plans" are attached in my post above. My main concern is venting out of the closet tho

Do you think 6 Hempy buckets is reasonable for the 3.1x3.1 space with a 600W HPS?

  10. You don't really need an intake fan as a proper exhaust fan will create enough vacuum to suck air in through any small hole.

  11. I have a space built in an entertainment center in my basement, It is only enough space to house a single plant but the plant gets very large or i could fit two smaller plants but i like the idea of one huge one:smoke:
You can have the plant not far from the light i keep mine about 3 inches from my light and as long as you have a fan goin through the light pulling the heat out via ducting and blowing it somewhere else in your room you will be fine and your plants wont burn.
I have a carbon filter ducted to one end of my light so smell is pulled through the filter then the light then out the fan and it works wonderful

    Happy Smoking

  12. Awesome! Thanks

Im thinking the setup shown, maybe without the intake fan for now with Hempy Pots and Floranova might be SICK!
