Nevada MJ Lounges by Xmas?

  1. Just a little happy news. The tweets were rather large, so I omitted them. I do like that they are open to the idea of other sorts of cannabis businesses beyond "cannabis bars".

Nevada Cannabis Consumption Lounges Could Go Live By End Of 2022

Cannabis consumption lounges, where adults 21 and older can openly use marijuana products in a social setting, are on track to open in Nevada by the end of this year following approval of regulations by the state’s Cannabis Compliance Board on Tuesday.

The lounges are widely seen as a boon for the state’s massive tourist industry, as well as for the tourists themselves. Since the state first launched legal sales in 2017—and even as Las Vegas’s cannabis retailers have become popular attractions—consuming marijuana anywhere outside a private home has generally remained illegal.

(A tweet from the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board went here)

State lawmakers passed a bill last year legalizing the establishments and creating two categories of licenses: one for “retail cannabis consumption lounges,” under which existing retailers will be able to sell products to be consumed on-site, and another for “independent cannabis consumption lounges” that will open as standalone lounges and sell single-serving and ready-to-consume products.

After regulators unanimously approved the new rules at a board meeting Tuesday, Gov. Steve Sisolak (D), who supports the move, tweeted: “In Nevada, we’ve prioritized the cannabis industry while protecting Nevadans AND diversifying the economy.”

(An approving tweet from a candidate for NV governor went here)

While some other states have allowances for social consumption, Tyler Klimas, executive director of Nevada’s Cannabis Control Board, told The Nevada Independent that he believes the state’s new rules are the most robust. Nevada’s lounges, he noted, will operate more like bars by selling single-use products rather than requiring customers to bring their own cannabis.

The law could also allow businesses that couple cannabis with yoga, serve infused food, offer THC-aided massage therapy or incorporate marijuana in other ways.

Sisolak championed Nevada’s lounge law in a 4/20 op-ed for Marijuana Moment this year, writing: “The idea isn’t new, but no one is doing it like we are in Nevada.” (snipped)

This ought to give Nevada tourism a big boost!

  2. I had a similar experience the first time I went to Alaska, could easily go buy weed, but not really anywhere ti "legally" smoke it as it was prohibited from public places and as a tourist obviously none of the rental places wanted us smoking.

Typically in Anchorage we would just discreetly blaze a J in the parking lot and never had problems, and outside the city there is plenty of great wide open to smoke without impacting others.

Vegas I could see because of the tourist volume and heavy urbanization of the strip needing a place for those folks to go, and I'm glad that maybe some businesses can offer new services depending on the law.

However, as some whos been to Vegas quite a few times over the years, I don't think there is any way in hell I'd go to smoke weed somewhere with a bunch of Vegas randos, I'd personally rather take my chances hot boxing a rental car or blazing in a discreet outdoor location.

Overall though, it seems like the proposal would expand individual liberties to Nevada resients and visitors, so I'd probably vote for it (after substantial review) were my locality proposing similar, which they probably could do since 20% of my town is college kids who can technically legally smoke weed in Virginia, but not on campus or in dorms, and most college private rentals explicitly prohibit weed use or cultivation.

    Interesting stuff though, good post.

  3. The Paiute Native American Indians in Nevada have already opened up a smoking lounges on the reservation
I Know that Winnemucca Nevada has had one for about 3 months .
I know that the Paiutes Indians have MJ farms on at least 3 different reservations.
A friend of mine works at one of the MJ farm on Indian property , They just planted a half million clones.

In total with all 3 farms I believe it was almost 1.5 to 2 million clones planted about a month ago .
The clones came in from California by semi .
    about 200.000 clones per semi.
Next time I drive by the MJ lounge I will snap a pic of it.

  5. Here the tribe is more or less telling the state fuck you .
One of our local City counsel board members who is also a lawyer and also owns several dispensaries in Washington and now one here tried to stop the Tribe from putting in the first dispensaries here because he wanted to put his store in first.
It was like watching clowns in a 3 ring circus dramatizing things so he could have the first store in town .
The tribe reservation land and laws is a Sovern Nation ............. pretty much laughed at all the bs and it about started a war with our city officials.
The City because the tribe decided to put in the first dispensary near the upper-class housing developments
tried using the location as like it would ruin the upper-class neighborhood and the city zoning tried to dictate where the tribe could build a dispensary .
The city actually tried to stop the construction of the building that was being built on the Indian reservation.
It was all over greed, and it showed certain city fathers true colors , greedy lying two face talk out their neck ass wipes.
At the same time the tribes dispensary was shorting the customers weight.
Everything they sold wasn't weighing what it should of.

I don't go in the tribes store, but I think they got the weights straightened out.

  7. Same exact scene just SE of Charlotte NC the SC line. A tribe wanted a casino near Kings Mountain and the local reps tried everything to stop it with no luck. It was the same years ago in nearby Rock Hill and the Catawba bingo hall. I hope they will do the same with pot since these states aren’t.
Prime example. While the federal ATF was arresting a SC woman who is accused of burning her house up with her kid inside, the same towns police dept was busy arresting a guy for simple poss of pot. Both are in the same jail log.

  12. Thats why I grow my own!, like any true liberal communist (/s) I saw the problems inherent in the system they are putting together, so I seized the means of dank bud production for the glory of people who still have to work 40+ hours a week to pay the bills!
