Outdoor glands can be colored by so many different aspects, (rain, heat, bugs, dirt, sun), that trying to look at them and make some determination as to maturity is useless and the same holds true with hairs turning color. Flower stamens are much more likely to turn brown from dew or humidity than from maturity. Swollen, darkend calyxes are your key combined with flower production. When the white hairs stop forming, chop the shit down.

Well said, Clodhopper. Magnifying glasses are useless for outdoor growers. Too many people have been led to believe that by looking through a jeweler's scope to gauge the color of trichromes/stamens is the way to determine bud maturity.
I hear that..my pops never had one and his weed was always very kickass. I have a few plants with about 50/50 reddish hairs. and a couple that i cant see really swelling much more but im not sure. Im in a greenhouse and my friend down the road isnt...that being said with some of the same strains his look like the are about 4 weeks behind mine. I had buds before him as well. its either my enviornment or the fact that he is a leaf whacking fool..
very true comment, i have a 60x-100x handheld led microscope but i prefer to wait until i see pistils receed into buds, leaves dying,etc....i think the microscope would have me pulling way to early...its cool to look at trichs for about a minute after that its better look with naked eye, also i prefer to harvest the plant in stages
I have my plants outside and don't know for sure in what week of flowering but I think week 5 or 6.. I just removed a young male and don't think any plants got pollinated but I think 2 plants(I only have four) are ready to go real soon..I just read that outdoor growers like me don't really need a magnifying glass??? I am looking for amber trichs but they look clear to me..I've got lots of red hairs but just saw some new white ones coming out..I don't get a lot of sun down here(central america) this time of year and are wondering if 5 weeks or 6 weeks really means anything..if it is all about light..but the buds smell awesome almost like hash..and all the water leaves are covered with resin..I can see the droplets with my magnifier but but they look clear to me..
