Need someone with LED Cabinet Making and Hydroponics ITT

  1. I've grown a few times in my shop with my dad so I picked up quite a bit on how to make a succeful crop, I now want to grow my own stash in my room.

My Friend suggested Hydroponics because it is easier and better. I know almost nothing about Hydroponics and am wondering if you guys could help me get setup.

    HYDROPONICS
My friend mentions the water has to be a bit warmer then the air around the plant, I dunno how much it matters I basically need to know the basics of it. If you guys could fill me in. How much room I need per plant, If the light cycle is any different or the temperature ect.

    LED
I want to try out LED For a few reasons:

It is very cheap running cost since this will be my own stash I don't want my parents to have a huge electrical bill that is caused by me, LEDs use almost no power.

I am well educated in smaller electronics(One of my projects [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gymGIExkHfI]YouTube - Lego Traffic Light[/ame] Operational lego traffic light FTW!) and can easily build my own grid and PC board along with any fans that need to be installed for air flow.

For LEDs I see people usually having a purple ones, I dunno if it is better to mix blue and red(Blues cost quite a bit) to make purple or buy purpe ones? I have seen LEDs with the label UV Violet I dunno if these are the same rays that mimic the sun or just a marketing name such as the blue/red LEDs I purchase from a local store ex. I buy 'Ultra' Blue 'Ultra' Red ect. the 'Ultra' is just there to show it it brighter and to make the LED sound better.

The LEDs I have atm only about 15Degree angle which isn't that great, although they are PRETTY bright but the problem is the lower viewing angle, I was thinking I could shine multiple LEDs at each plant from different Angles, is this a good idea? Or should I buy more expensive higher viewing angle LEDs?

I know LEDs produce bassicaly NO heat, I have a heater I can put in the cabinet. My friend also suggested heating pads underneath the hydroponic setup to help keep the water warmer?

I have designed my own Cabinet. I want it to hold a maximum of 10 plants(I'm not going to start with 10 I just want that to be the max so I can expand once I get the feel of hydroponics) so I don't have the messurements yet because I was hopeing you guys could suggest about how big I want it to be to grow 10 planets in it. What do you guys think of it?

I was hopeing to build it on the floor, but if I need air flow(Fans undernearth ect.) building it up a bit on some supports will be no problem for me.

I was planning on the walls out of MDF material(Marked in the skinny black Line) since it is pretty dence then running 1x1 boards(Red) all around the corners and drilling the MDF together via the 1x1 boards for extra support. Then the Brackets(Blue - looking at the pic again I left some brackets out) will keep the 1x1 boards together, and for the door I might use something lighter for wood or just 3-4 Strong Hinges. Do you guys think MDF will be too heavy for a door?

Thoughts on my design? I cut out parts of it for fans ect. if needed

    Thanks for any help/input

  2. sounds kickass...

  3. LED's make plenty of heat trust me. While they might not be HID hot they still are hot. Unless you are growing in a freezer you should not have to heat your buckets. Most hydro growers freak out if their buckets/rez get close to 70 degrees!

You must have one hell of a big grow cabinet if you want to be able to grow 10 plants in hydro at once. Hydro plants are no joke.

This is my current plant. DNA Kushberry she was only vegged for 30 days. This is in a 28"x53"x78" tent!
