ill make a long story short in saying that i until today had 2 plants. Plant one and Plant two. Plant two was my favorite the entire grow, it showed much promise by growing huge and very thick. It looked awesome. Plant one grew very thin and nowhere near as fast, still to this day, very thin and lanky. When it was young, i had 2 planted in the same pot, when they were young, i decided seperating them would work best for obvious reasons, so i chose plant one and plucked it out. Still, i couldn't give myself to just throw it out, so i planted it in whatever i had and just let it grow. 10 days ago i adjusted my lights to 12/12 and right on schedule, 10 days later they showed their preflowers. To my surprise, the bigger healthy plant turned out male and my small number showed female. I'm not sure quite what to do now. My reason for turning to the forum was to ask for some tips as to what i should do. I assume that since i've taken the plant out of it's veg cycle (24/24) that it would be bad to re-veg it, but i'm worried that my stalks are so small that they won't hold any buds to them. I need to find a way to build up my stalks this late in the game. I thought about scrapping the plant, but figured that while i have a female on my hands, i might as well grow it out to maturity. Could i root clones from this plant was my 2nd inquiry. Obviously i can, but will it be favorable, and could/should i cut all of the branches and attempt to clone them all into some mini SOG. Based on what knowledge i do have, i'm kind of embarrassed by my situation, but it does wonders for showing you the resilient nature of these plants, always full of surprises. attatched are photos of the 2 plants a week and a half before the light switch, and the 2nd photo is one from this morning. thanks!!
what the heck...... Funny story, i knew this guy once who thought for veg you had to put the lights on 18/18.... lol. He was doing it for a month and had the tallest scrawny plants ever.
throw out the male, the female will be fine, if you have to use strings to support the bud branches. be sure you clone the female asap.
Grow it out and it will be fine. It's a bit immature looking and BTW, males always look the best at first. I would take cuttings once it's 21 days into flower. They will root fine, be more mature, and once rooted I find they have way more bud sites. You can search for "flowering clones" if you care. I tried it a while back and have switched over to this practice. Makes timing easier as well, no mother plants needed, cuttings taken at 21 days take about 10-14 days to root, they veg the remainder of the donor plants flowering cycle and then are ready to flower themselves. Good use of time for cloning and veg without growing monster plants that vegged to long.
I have heard both sides of this, logistics forced me to take mine coincidentally at 21 days, so I guess that worked out, lol.
Do you have any other plants/seeds/clones to grow? If not, then you might want to switch back to 24/0 and keep vegging until she's big enough for clones. At this point, if you have 2 rooms, you can veg the clones and flower the mom. If you don't want to (or only have 1 room/suitable light source), then you can veg all of em. Or even start flowering all of em if the clones are big enough and you want a SoG type grow.
here is an update of what i've got going on. it's been on a 12/12 cycle since the 14th of last month. i'm worried that the buds look a bit small, what would help me boost their size. in searching, i've read that switching to 8/16 would boost it. i am interested in eventually cloning these branches. please help!
bump : your fine thats are sick lookin, ( in a good way) dark green coloration, and thoose nugs will hold up beautifully, thrres these bottles of "i gues syou coudl say "steroids" for plants, may help with the main stalk and branches to get a lil sturdier. strong light never hurst overall flower or veg either.
looks like your doing fine with what you have there, but, imo there are a few little things that may be an issue for you. 1 lighting is not strong enough, if you want to add power without a big bill get a 64 watt CFL from home depot and hang above it they are 2700s so that will be good. 2 it looks like your soil may be a little on air but I am just going by what I can make out from the pics. never pack down your soil when potting, I get soil wet then just drop it into planter leaving air spaces all through it, perlite/vermiculite helps also. 3 use a five gallon planter to finish so you get a lot of room for root expansion for the flowering cycle, this will help with the growth rate.
Take the plastic lenses/covers off the lights. Keep the tubes clean. Get some white paint/plastic sheeting or mylar. Get rid of the foil. Add more lights if possible!
thanks guys, i originally developed this box as a test. it's built out of a 1968 sunn 215 bass cabinet! good looking on the lights, knew i'd need more, but didnt originally plan for this little shimmer of success. i found a rather cheap HPS light at walmart for some brinks security light, but it didn't include any sort of ballast so i passed. i will upgrade though for the future. when would be best to start cloning? after harvest? that is if i get any sort of real harvest. i figure the best situation here would be me getting like a bit of bud and a bunch to clone. i've got the hormone, etc, just have to develop some sort of way to get my clones going. any more input is appreciated with my situation!
ps. last time i grew it was insisted that i get into jack's nutrients. i ran the 20-20-20 for veg 1/4 strength with every feeding and am doing the same with the blossom boost now.
