I have already cut some buds off my plants and they are currently drying. I am going to turn lights off on Thursday and let them set in the dark for 2 days. I will finish the cutting on Saturday. Am I supposed to trim and cut stuff off after they dry to make it ready to use, before I put it in glass jars or after? I tried reasoning it out on my own, but as a first time grower and someone who has never done the intricate trimming, I am just not knowledgeable on this topic. All help is appreciated. Thanks to all who helped with this grow. It has been fun. I can actually say it has been one of my highest experiences ever.
Remove the big stuff before jarring for curing but you can leave them "rough" with the more trichomes laden sugar leafs still on the buds. Some people trim before jarring for ease, it's up to you and either way won't make too big of a deal.
those things are looking awesome! from my experiences when i wet trim, the buds seem to dry too quickly and I've gotten that over powering hay smell. On the other hand when i just trim the larger fan leaves and leave the sugar leafs through the hang dry process, it seems to be a more even but slower hang time. But i get that very potent smell until putting it into jars. hope it makes sense because I'm highly medicated.
If you are getting a grassy, hay-like, smell then its not the wet trim. It's the environment being too warm and too dry. Dry your plants no warmer than 72f degrees and you'll get much better results. If mold is an issue then 40% humidity. If you are clean like me then 70f and 60% RH will result in a more mild hang dry. Once hang dried you should also consider a step between hanging and jarring. Paper bagging. Many pro growers do this. Break the buds down off the main stem before the stems snap but after a few days hang drying to remove most of the moisture. Put the buds in a single layer inside of a brown paper grocery bag and roll the top closed to limit air flow. This can extend a drying process by a few days before jarring and I find it works very well at getting rid of the "green" smell in the buds.
^ Thank u for clearing that up for me. For the longest time i blamed it on the wet trim, so now ill change my environment and go from there. Anyways its not my thread, so best of luck op.
