ok so i put the beans in cups with water an i heard somethin bout putting them in there for like a day or something an then just planting them outside an someone said it works better.. what temp should they be in? should i cover the cup? how long exactly should i leave them in there? thanks
Personally, I would use this method. It's what I've been doing. Tear off a piece of a paper towel and fold it in half. If necessary, cut it so that it will fit into a SEALABLE sandwich bag. It's important that the bag has a seal so that it will retain moisture. If it doesn't, you can simply tape it. No worries. Wet half of the paper towel with water (preferably rain water) and place the seeds on it, making sure they are spread out a little bit. You probably shouldn't use tap water if you aren't 100% sure it's safe so rain or bottled water is always a good bet. Now, fold the dry half of the paper towel over the wet half that has the seeds on it. Spray water on the top half so that the whole thing is moist. The seeds should be sandwiched between the paper when it is folded. Now stick the whole contraption carefully into a sandwich bag and seal it (with the seal that comes on the bag or scotch tape). Put it in a dark place for about 3-4 days making sure it is somewhat warm. After that, you can take them out, and you should have little white roots beginning to come out of the plants. And that's germinating, at least the way I've always done it. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
yea thats a good way thats the way ive always done it but someone told me about this water in a cup thing an said it works better for outdoors so i thought id give it a try ha
water in cup method just presoaks your seeds for planting... pop it in a cup with a lid over it to block sunlight... leave it on top of a fridge or someplace relatively warm... check in a day... lightly tap the seeds down to break the surface tension, some will sink, some will float back up if they're bad seeds.... leave for another day to make sure the seed gets fully soaked, and it's ready for planting... anything floating in the cup can be discarded at this point... technically all the paper towel method does is give you an easy visual way to check the seed... but this is more of a prepping the seed for planting, and half-ass checking if it's a viable seed... not every seed that sinks will grow, but every one that floats won't... once you plant, never dig up the seed... just be patient and keep the soil moist till it pops...
Umm..... I germmed like 20 seeds a while ago. 2 of them sank. They were the only two that didn't germ... Your wrong
I did experiment inside some in paper towel, some straight in dirt, andfor most part they sprouted bout same time , the ones i planted in soil seemed healthier.I only did this once for shits an giggles, but i plant straight in ground.only way I could see thids bein usable is if u had older seed so u knewwhich ones are gon go
HIGH invester, I have my Water at Room Temp...I don't Cover it and you should see something within a Day or two.....if Longer than That Change water and wait....if you don't have something up in a week...seeds maybe no Good. Just to Show not All Bad Seeds Sink
I never heard to many people putting them directly in water. My friend started sprouting with a mix of essential soils and such- peat hummus, peat moss, lime, and perilite/vermeculite. His seeds sprouted within 4-5 days, and his girls are looking absolutley beautiful now after a month.
I hear ya mandaxpanda...been doing it for over 30 yrs (Germing in water)...I don't know why *LOL*....Can't remember the Last time I put a Seed right into Soil.
What this thread shows is that people can germinate seeds more than one way. I'd suggest sticking to the method you already know. If you're new to germination then pick a method on the numerous blogs and try it out. I've always placed my seeds in purified water for 15-20 hours then placed them on a plate between two sheets of kitchen towel in a warm laundry cupboard until shoots come out. Then plant! Its always worked for me but its personal preference!
I always thought that since mediums are black(for the most part) it would absorb energy from lights for heat, etc.but i would bet most seeds in nature dont wait till the're buried to germ which would b cup o water way.
i would soak them in a warm, dark place in the water for 12-24 hours. then keep them in moist paper towels for a day or two still in warm, dark place. sometimes youll see the tap root in 12 hours, sometimes it can take 3 to 4 days. patience is key. i apoligize for my last post there, i wasnt very nice. plus, you just scare me dude and i dont want you shooting my ass.
That video is old. I don't see any reason to jack the thread with that crap. And yeah, those guys should be kicked off a cliff.
wtf are you talkin bout 'negative rep' you.. i dont even know how to do that or that it was even possible to do.. w/e an ill be sure to throw a dog off a cliff just for you man lol was that sposed to offend me?
thats fucked up to say.. i dare you to say it to a soldiers face i understand if you would kick someones ass for that but talkin the way you did is a very touchy subject for alot of soldiers and familys
damn i was too tired after work to watch that yesterday but i just watched it thats the type of shit that makes our military look bad.. but i guess theres bad apples in every tree. poor puppy
I soak them in tap water for 24 hours, then plant them in a "seed starter" mix, place them someplace indoors where its warm. Keep them moist, once they start sprouting which should be in about 4 days, place in sunlight, let soil dry a bit, then water every other day...
