so im getting paid here soon and i wanted to go to home depot to get wood for my large wooden pc grow box its going to be around 25'' H, 25" D, and 10" W it's going between my desk and the wall i was wondering what was some cheap reflective materials i could use for the in side and what light set up would be good to i only have around 135 dollars to spend for the whole thing and if any one has some cool idea for a box like that would be cool this will be my first grow and as of right now i plan on puting in 4 cfls
theres a thread about lighting and getting the most out of yar lighting around here. You should check it for further reference. White paint will be good bang for buck since its so cheap. Mylar is way more expensive but it does have highest reflective properties. I just posted a thread regarding a car windshield sunreflector and inquiring if it was good for something even if it has very poor reflective props. Still no reply. 4 CFL´s seem reasonable for a relative small grow box. You can get those in hope depot or something like that. Check the color (white, warm) and very important the efficiency: Watts/lumen. You want the brand and model that delivers the most lumens for watt. Dont be fooled, some of the bigger CFL´s have lower watt/lumen rating when compared to mediuum sized. Dont be afraid to use more bulbs with lower output. The important thing is to have an even distribution and an apropiate amount of lumens in the right spectrum. $ 45 lights $ 30 nutes $ 25 soil, pot, jar, sprayer $ 20 wiring, casing, paint, fittings $ 15 2 cheap pc fans and a pack of batteries You can play a little with that, but you can manage a decent enough rig. Doesnt matter if you have state of the art equipment if you lack the knowledge and patience. Shot for 60 lumens/watt at the very least. Say u get 4 x 20 watt CFL´s 1350 lumens. That be 5000 lumens in a contained space. Not shabby at all. Only 80 watt expense and no heat. Hope it helps. Peace
i was actually thinking like 4 23 watt or maybe 4 26 watt cfls is that to much and i was planing geting 2 of these Newegg.com - SilenX IXP-64-11 92mm Case Fan would they be enough i like them cuz they are really quiet their 12 $ but shipping is like 2 $
those fans look good and silent, but dont know if they are big enough. Consider light leak in the fan opennings... Maybe getting a 75 HPS will suit you better if you can handle heat. Much more light. The initial investment is one thing, but running them is far more expensive in the end, so heavily ponder upon the lummen / watt ratio.
yeah i have thought about light i was going to have a chamber in the front and one in the back with the exhaust fan blowing into the back chamber and the intake fan pulling in air from the front chamber like this one that i found online but with another chamber in the front
1) the ballast and the bulb will be more expensive than 70 watt worth of CFL´s 2) i will produce a hell more heat, but also a lot more light. 3) running 75 watt HPS = running 75 watt CFL´s when it comes to the electric bill.
OK my mom didn't believe me i was right thank u well 1st i should now how much would 70 watts of electricity effect the electricity bill and does the hps screw into a normal light socket the reason im so worried about the bill is because my mom has a grow room and now im about to have a grow box and my mom don't want to raise the bill because we live with my grandma and shes been having to shovel a bunch of money out lately because my dumb uncle just went to jail and becuase of that she is having a little trouble with the bills
i saw somewhere in this forum something like 500 watt continuous use will raise $20 you electric bill. Youll have to check your electric bill to find out how much they charge for kWh and post. We can pick it up from there. Maybe for a small casing youd be better off with CFL´s. Smaller HPS dont have that great output rate and are bit messier since you have to get a ballast and a different screwing socket.
here are the rating for our electricity On-Peak Energy Charge: $0.115776 per kWh for all kWh during the billing months of June-September Off-Peak Energy Charge: $0.073416 per kWh for all kWh during the billing months of June-September On-Peak Energy Charge: $0.081281 per kWh for all kWh during the billing months of October-May Off-Peak Energy Charge: $0.069761 per kWh for all kWh during the billing months of October-May yeah im most likely going with the cfl what size fans do u think i should usei could get some bigger fans that are also quiet like 120mm maybe that would be better
Those are very good rates compared to what i get. (.21166 for any kWh over 250 kWh billed; since i use those for running my house im pretty much screwed...) Lets see, for 4 x 26 watt = total 104 watts the numers ar as follow: 104 18 30 56.16 0.1158 6.50 104 12 30 37.44 0.1158 4.33 104 watts x 18 hrs x 30 days = 56.16 kWh energy spent x $.1158/kWh = $ 6.5 / month Yep, thats 4.33 / month for a 12/12 hour cycle using 104 watt on the "expensive" part of the year 104 18 30 56.16 0.0698 3.92 104 12 30 37.44 0.0698 2.61 Thats the rate for the current months off-peak. So there ya go, depending on the hours you run it and the season of the year you are expecting to see a 2.61 - 6.50 bump in the bill depending on wheter you are vegging or flowering. Hope that you get it going on soon, :woot: :woot:
sweat thats not much at all i was actually doing a lot of looking at seeds on ATTITUDE SEEDBANK Cannabis Seeds and i was going to get something that grow really short from their like the lowryders should i be making a new post in a different category ive been on other sites and people's gotten mad at me before im pretty sure i heard genetics are really important so in that case i want to grow some something that comes from G13 or greenhouse they are good genetics arnt they and does any one now of some good strains that would be good for a really short grow with higher THC lvl. i would rather have high THC then high yeild(i don't mind high yeilds their nice to)i just want to have some crazy ass shit every now and then with like 20%+ THC all the growers around here think miracle grow is the best way to grow.and they also dont do anything with temp or humidity what ever there lost i want to do every thing organic cuz i like good tasting weed sorry about the long ass posts that rant very interesting tried to living things up with the smileys and thanks for all the help i really appreciate it
i did a lot of talking with my mom last night and i think i got her to let me build a box that is a lot bigger like 45'' tall and 2foot wide and deep and i plan on putting 6 23wat cfls i need some ideas on how i should put them in i i want them to hang buy a small chain or rope all as one unit or or 2 units and i was hoping to only have to use 2 fans that put out 72 cfm and they are 20dba noise lvl u think they will be loud in a bedroom
hey man check out my grow journal thats in my Sig. I'm using a setup like you are describing with 8x23w cfl's and a 3x3x2 foot wooden grow box. it's deffinatly within your budget
