Need help with lighting

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by i drinkbongwater2, Apr 13, 2016.

  1. Hi everyone. I just purchased a 32'' by 32'' by 63" grow tent. I wanted to light it with a 400 watt hps and air cooled reflector. My problem is I don't think I can fit it when the fan and ducting is added in. Anybody have any ideas? I was thinking a 250 watt but I run into the same problem with the hood size. Any help is appreciated.

  2. Oh yea. It'll fit. If it's a grow tent, it'll fit a grow light...I guarantee you. If you've only got 32" square of grow space, you're only going to be able to get about one good plant flowered in there and it get the light it needs. More light makes bigger buds, but when you're dealing with super confined spaces like that tent and using hps, heat is always the biggest problem. If you do use a 400 watt hps in there, you better put together a ventilation system that will hum because it is going to create some serious heat. You always need good air movement in and around your plants aside from anything you're running through your lighting anyway, but it'll be especially important to get all the air in there you can with a light that strong. I'm sure it can be done and it will grow some seriously good buds. The size and density of your buds is directly proportional to the good strong lighting they get during the flower cycle. Also, you can harvest more good quality weed off one plant that has been given everything it needs and all the light it can absorb than you can by trying to force more into that space than you have room for. Crowding together plants just shades out much of the foliage and most all the growth under the canopy is scrub and under developed. So don't let the fact that you don't have room for lots of plants discourage you. One good healthy plant can produce several ounces if it's healthy and gets that light. Do spend as much time researching how to grow these plants under artificial light indoors as you have with your grow set up. They work hand in hand and there are vital basics that every grower needs to know about this plant and how to deal with it. The more you know when you start out the better the chance of you getting your plant all the way through it's life and some yield from it. Not having a good basic understanding of the plant and the process of growing it is only going to hurt the plant and cause it not to produce as much. So read up on the best way to grow these things so when you do get this girl to harvest, you'll be proud of what you've accomplished. Read around in the new grower threads. Lots of posts there just for the new grower. TWW

  4. Thanks White Widow for the info! I have about 20 years cultivation experience, just new to tent growing and after acquiring this particular tent I became discouraged because all the air cooled reflectors and cooltubes were at least 20 inches long. I was going to go with a 250 hps but the hoods were no smaller. Was going to put a 6" Can Fan Max Fan in there rated for 420cfm to pull cool air into the tent.

  5. If you can put a short run of ducting in and put the fan outside would that give you the space for the fixture?

  6. That would work, but I really wanted to contain everything inside the tent. Might just have to go this route though. May be I should just break down and buy a 3'x3'x7' or something similar. Thanks Falcon!
