Need help with a build

Discussion in 'Silicon (v)Alley' started by StickyFingered, Oct 20, 2012.

  1. I'm looking to purchase a new computer mainly to run guild wars 2 and I'm not really sure where to start. I've heard that ordering parts separately and building my own is the way to go. What do you recommend I buy? I'm trying to keep cost as low as possible while still getting good performance.

  2. What's your price range? And do you have any idea at all as to what you want? You didn't really give much to go on lol

  3. Don't buy a preassembled computer.. You can spend $700 on www.newegg.com and get what would cost 1500 on a website.

  4. I'm looking to spend around $800 and I'm going to be use it for mostly gaming, watching movies and school work

Thanks crane, I'll take a look at those. I would still have money to spare on a better graphics card, are there any better ones you would recommend?

Well the thing is you still have to factor in a case, monitor, optical drive and keyboard/mouse into that. If that's not a problem then I'd probably say the evga geforce gtx 560Ti.

  7. I forgot to say that I already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Does anybody else have any suggestions? Would like to get a few peoples suggestions before I drop all this money

  8. Don't get a 1 gig graphics card if you can help it. 2 gigs makes a world of difference as long as it's a powerful enough card.

  9. An 8 core cpu is overkill for your price range, get something a bit cheaper and spend the extra cash on gfx card. Gaming uses the gfx card more than cpu for the most part.

Both true. I tend to always want a really good processor but it isn't necessary for gaming. A 3.0+ ghz 4 core should be fine.

Id get this if i was you:
    Newegg.com - MSI N660 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

or something close to it. check out the new 660 line. cheaper than 660 ti and still preforms really well

    alot newer than 560ti.

that HDD he listed is expensive because its made for very write intensive work. its a security system hdd. you could get blue series for like 20$ less or so. I do like WD the best though. click this for blue drive

that PSU is nice, but expensive for 720 watt. silent pro is new series, you could find one for cheaper.

and i strongly dislike that Motherboard. but if you like its design and look then go for it. i personally would never buy that.

also i recommend cooler master or NZXT for cases. their shits so nice and really quality built. if you cant afford it just go for a cheap case but realize you are going to be looking at this baby every day, you want it to visually please you and not be an eye sore.

if you got any questions just ask.

  12. That WD blue HD is nice. Basically the same specs as my hard drive. Map loading in games is really fast.

  13. I agree with NZXT, I have one of their cases and its very nice.

  14. Thanks for all the input guys. I posted a thread on a computer forum and they threw together a different build for me, I'll post it up when I get home in a few hours and see what you guys think. Those nzxt cases are sexy, I've been considering at the gunmetal 410.

This is what i would do:

HDD: Newegg.com - Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

    GPU: Newegg.com - MSI N660 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

PSU: Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M2 RS620-SPM2E3-US 620W ATX12V V2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

    Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233186

Mobo: Newegg.com - MSI Z77A-G41 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

    CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K

Total right now on new egg is $779 + Shipping (16.25 for me) and there is 35$ in Mail in rebates.

This is on top of your budget but it is a hell of a lot better than that AMD build the other guy posted. that CPU is not good. lol

this computer will play any game out right now id imagine.... any most games to come.

and if you go this far, id recomend saving up another 2 bills to get a nice case, a cpu cooler, case fans, sound card and an eighth of dank to smoke while you build it lol

let me know if you want something cheaper or different ill make a list, it took me a couple minutes to think of this one. these are all brands i trust and i would buy these parts for myself if i was going to build a PC for under a grand...

    good sound card: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Channel-...TF8&qid=1350933528&sr=8-1&keywords=Asus+Xonar
    free shipping on amazon.

  16. ^that is no doubt a better computer. I was trying to be more budget friendly hence the amd. If you can afford it though definitely go with his over mine.

  17. Doesn't look bad. Two things that I see:

    1. There's no processor (I assume you just forgot to add the link)

    2. That power supply is pretty small. It might work though, I'm not great at estimating how much power you need. Jumbo is probably better with that.

  18. Yeah I forgot to add a link for the processor, just added one. Do I need a SSD or could I do without it? Somebody recommended I get it, I'm not sure what difference it would make. Also, the graphics card I was planning on buying is no longer on sale, which other would you recommend for $190?
