As the topic says, I was lazy and used a Clip on light fixture, and clipped to a pole..... I just recently moved to a legal state, so this is my first attempt. I have a 200w lightbulb, It gives off quite a bit of heat, so I do a hand test, to make sure whereever the plant is, is not too hot. Currently running 24hr light, they were seeds 18 days ago, so this is almost 3 weeks growth, from seed. Using Miracle Gro soil, no additional nutrients added. Watering once every 3 days unless the soil becomes completely dry. No fans currently, but I Keep closet door open, and air it out. Well, My light fell off the pole, and burned one leaf badly. It was wilting, and begining to crumble off, so I made the quick decision to Cut the leaf at the affected area. After the light fell, it also burned a nice chunk of my floor, so I secured it with rope instead, Now, another leaf is showing the same effect. The plants are still growing at a nice rate, but Im hoping for advice! Should I change lights? Bigger Closet? Do I need a fan? Any advice helps
Lol...what you need, is to go read Yes you need a fan Bring the light closer, what kind of bulb are you using? That is a decent closet for what you are doing Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I have read, But there is so many thousands of articles here, I could spend a week researching just Nutrients. So, For example, I read I SHOULD use a 5g bucket, but since im using a smaller closet, I cannot afford to grow a 6ft tall plant. Hence, the small pot. Yet, I am pretty sure I should not have planted 2 in a pot that small. Seeds were the only two i found, out of some Gorilla Glue I got from a dispensary. I had to go through quite an amount before I found a seed. I am not expecting top of the line flowers this run, I am just trying to familiarize myself with the process. It is a GE 200w 3750 lumen bulb which i just realized is incandescent so is doing no good? I have it that far up, because it is a VERY hot light... Hot enough, that when it fell down, not only did it burn my plant, it also left a 4" x 4" bubble of molten linoleum on my kitchen floor. (Wife was not happy haha)
you need to read, read, and then read more. Don't get hung up on nutes yet. Learn the basics,,,Light, wind, PH, Most Important is you do it in a safe manner. I hope this helps
Correct, that light is no good, you do need airflow as well, and never ever use Miracle Grow. If heat is a big issue due to space consider LEDs.
So, are these plants tainted from miracle grow soil? I did a quick research and found that the soil has extended release, in high levels of nitrogen, so Thank you! I will keep that in my head for the next attempt. I am reading, just using you guys as the guiding light in where to go, so I do appreciate all feedback. I Will purchase a new Bulb tomorrow and am in the process of figuring out which one to buy. Will also get a fan for ventilation, with a thermometer to keep an eye on closet temps. It might sound dumb, but because i havent had a fan, I have at least brought them outside during peak daylight hours, since its about 80 during the day, and 50 at nigh, as I have heard along time ago that the wind strengthens the stalk. As for safety, Yes.. When I saw that burn, I got mad. Mad that I damaged my house, and the fact it could have been worse, that is why I made sure that it would not be an issue again. It is now Tied with rope, and has a small safety chain as well.
