Hi, After top dressing the soil on day 21 with 20grams compost and 3grams chemical fertilizer and pouring water, the plant is drooping heavily, and the drooping is getting worse. There are also yellow spots on the leaves. Photos are attached. Plant is in a biodegradable cup. Is this caused by nutrient burn and/or over watering? What can I do to fix this? Thank you.
What kind of soil is that? Most good soils are pretty hot and will hold enough nutrients for the first 4 to 6 weeks. At day 23, I'm guessing too heavy on the nutes. I'd lay off for awhile and see if she responds. Also might be time to pot up. If that is one of those biodegradable pots, check underneath and see if you have roots exposed. If so, time to transfer. I don't really trust those types of pots, but I would gently cut around the bottom of them before the transfer to expose the roots more. Good luck!
easy fix - Potup to a bigger pot 15 liters - 3 usgallons extract from the peat pot as they suck up water leaving the soil toxic with nutes, add some 30% perlite to add much needed air, keep in dark- dim light until the shock has recovered good luck
Those pots dry out really fast. I'd suggest watering from the bottom until the pot itself is saturated. I believe your plant will spring back to life.
"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant." -Robert L Stevenson I like this quote.
Soil is peat moss and top dressed with 20g worm cast and 20g compost. There is no roots penetrated the bottom. Should I remove the top layer of amendment where the chemical nutes were added and flush it 5 times?
Should I remove the top layer of amendment where the chemical nutes were added and flush it 5 times to remove access nutes before transplant to bigger pot?
Should I remove the top layer of amendment where the chemical nutes were added and flush it 5 times to remove access nutes?
only if it falls off as you wanna disturb the roots as little as possible as they are in early veg they are a lot stronger than you think only later at flower do they get fussy tho you have a little nute burn the concern should be on the root-bound-ness it will fade over time in the 'new' soil of the larger pot cheers
Only if what falls off? You mean the whole plant? About root bound, I thought this cup does not cause root bound, it will let the roots penetrate it before transplant. It does not? How much water should I pour into the large pot after transplant? Where to pour it? I will use a 5 gallons air pot. I use distilled water. I heard distilled water would leach minerals out more when run off. Also, this is autoflower. Thank you so much for your help.
I never flush as I don't believe in it and honestly wouldn't remove anything because as Vee said, you want to disturb the roots as little as possible. Very important at this early stage. If those are the kind of cups that I think they are, then they don't degrade as they should. That's why I recommended gently cutting around the bottom of the cup before transplanting. This gives the roots more room to grow. I know this because I have about a dozen okra plants in my back yard in 5 gallon pots with those "starter" cups. Those plants have been out there since February and those cups are still there LOL. At this early stage, these plants need very little water. I actually use a spray bottle and gently hit the top soil every other day or so. Run your finger along the top of the soil about a half inch down and if it's dry, it's time to water, and I mean just a squirt or 2 on the soil. Over watering is a very common mistake for a new grower. It isn't until they are in their "forever home", which in your case will be your 5 gallon pot, that the roots will start to take off........and if done right, they will take off super fast and your watering schedule will change a bunch. As for water, I have always just used tap water with good results, but that's a preference thing. Distilled is fine, but not necessary IMO. Keep us posted and fire away with any questions as you move along with your grow. Best of luck!
okay. I am ready to uppot it. How much water should I pour into the large pot after transplant? Where to pour it? The new soil will have perlite in it. Thank you so much for your help.
Only if what falls off? You mean the whole plant? = only if its sitting at the base of the plant, it falls of once pot is upturned About root bound, I thought this cup does not cause root bound, it will let the roots penetrate it before transplant. It does not? = The peat pot sucks up the water in the soil leaving the soil nute toxic to the plant How much water should I pour into the large pot after transplant? Where to pour it? = Lift THINK to water or not very little or just spray light I will use a 5 gallons air pot. I use distilled water. I heard distilled water would leach minerals out more when run off. Also, this is autoflower .= IMO: use 50/50 to tap water, that way you still get the needed minerals in the tap water, or suffer bad calmag issues later Overwatering vs Underwatering Marijuana | Grow Weed Easy cheers
I cut a small hole at the bottom and some soil about 2cm high into the cup fell out. I looked underneath and did not see any root and the peat moss is dry at the bottom even though it is very wet at the top. It looks like the water gets trapped in the peat moss higher up. Maybe from top to 2/3 of the way down. So, if I am going to uppot this cup, do I need to cut off the bottom part high enough until the bottom roots are exposed before I put it into the big pot? If I put it into the new soil as it is with the bottom cover removed, the roots will not contact the new soil.
Take an exacto knife or blade and GENTLY cut around the bottom of the cup. No need to cut any higher. Might be a little stressed at first, but those roots should accept the new soil just fine. Keep in mind that many people who use those kind of cups don't cut them, but I do because I just don't trust them LOL. I believe a solid root system is very important when growing marijuana. Peace
