Need help in deciding a grow tent size | Newbie

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Melbec27, Nov 10, 2021.

  1. I decided to buy a grow tent, but I'm not sure about the sizes. I was thinking between 5x5 and 2.3x2.3.
I share my thoughts on this. On the one hand, I think about something big, because it will probably be more convenient to carry out all the work. I can plant not the whole area right? But is this convenience worth it? Well, with a small one, it's probably good because the price is lower. Would appreciate the advice.

  2. I'd get at least a 2x4. A 4x4 or larger would be better if you plan on expanding in the future, but a 2x4 can still crank out a fair amount of weed if you light the whole thing properly and fill it with plants. Get a tent that can be opened from both sides, and set it up so you have access to both.

  3. Thanks, can both of this sizes have access from both sides? If I will not plan to expand, then 2x4 will be a good decision?

  4. Actually I haven't been able to find a 2x4 with doors on both sides. Still, even with just one door the tent is only 2 feet deep, so you should be able to reach the back of it fairly easy from the front.

Even if you do plan to expand, the 2x4 would still be a good decision. You may eventually want separate cloning, veg, and flower areas, so you could dedicate the 2x4 to veg and get a 4x4 for flower if you weren't producing enough to keep up with your needs.

  5. I wouldn't consider price when deciding what size to get. If you have the room go for a 4x4. You don't have to fill the tent if you find it's too big but if you discover a 2x4 is too small you'll end up buying two tents.

  6. 4x4 would be good. Just grow a couple of plants to gain some experience. Add more plants later. I grow 4 plants in my 4x4.

Get a larger tent if you have room for it, 100% for sure, or you’ll wish you would have.
You don’t have to cram it full. If half of your plants end up males and you want to grow 2 plants, you will be growing at least 4 in the beginning. A 4x4 is a fine size for a couple of plants. And the 4x4 will give you room to empty drip trays etc. Completely agree that you want side D doors too. I actually sit on a milk crate while I’m watering in the 5x5. I love to sit in the grow space, maybe it’s the oxygen the plant give off?

I have a Spider Farmer 4x4 and a Gorilla 5x5; I highly recommend the Spider Farmer and would buy it again: it has the right stuff in the right places. The Gorilla is OK but expensive, no side doors, and not worth the extra money (5x5 anyway). I have a MaxiSun 5x5 for drying and wouldn’t recommend the ass- stupid design of MaxiSun. It was the cheapest (just wanted a drying space) and it shows- the access ports are all in the wrong places, there are not enough of them to allow for configurabilith, and it’s just pretty stupid design.

I also sealed all the seams on both grow tents with liquid rubber to seal the light leaks. You should consider taping off the window flap, you don’t need it and it’s a leaker (on both tents).

Before you use your tent, sit in it, all zipped up, with all the oustside ambient lights on and look for leaks. You better seal the leaks. I didn’t know, and my first grow hermied big time, in flower. Great weed, but lots of seeds. They will probably all have light leaks to some degree.

Based on your question, I’m recommending you consider the Spider Farmer 4x4, I’ve got one and it serves me well, and it’s not the most expensive one out there.

  8. Thank you for such a detailed answer and advices. Really appreciate it. I've heared about the Gorilla and MarsHydro, but Spider is new for me. But still I'll check it.

Thanks again Weedweasle and all the members of the forum.
