NEED HELP ASAP.. GNATS??

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Wannasab, Aug 25, 2019.

  1. I have noticed very small flies around my plants. They have definitely multipled since the first spotting. I have not been over-watering.. if anything i have been under-watering to avoid issues like this. Temp has been high past week (about 81 degrees F) humidity has been between 51 and 55. I have 11 clones in a tent in one gallon pots in a basement. Air flow is good. Pictures are not great.. will try to get better ones. Have tried looking up gnats v fruit flies but i honestly dont know. Should i get some neem oil? 20190824_192018.jpg

  2. Fungal gnats.

Mosquito dunks. Crush one and sprinkle under the plants.
Toss one in your watering pail. Good for 30 days.

  3. -1/4" deep layer of coarse sand on the surface of the soil. Drains water quickly so you can feed right thru it. Gnat adults think the surface is dry and avoid trying to lay eggs. Doesn't really trap the moisture like mulch like stuff does.

-Remove any mulch type medium that keeps the soil surface wet

-Let the plant dry out with proper wet/dry cycles

-Yellow sticky pads on the plant and hanging from somewhere up high catches the adults

-Neem oil sprayed on the surface of the soil can help repel the adults from scrounging around on it

-Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth - has tiny shards of silica that are harmful to larvae

-You can mix a mild hydrogen peroxide solution (Mix one part 3% hydrogen peroxide with four parts water). Let the surface dry, then spray the surface of the soil heavily, but not enough to actually water the plant. If you're organic, it will be kind of harmful to the layer of microbes it comes in contact with, but if you only make it soak a couple inches down it should be fine. Should kill the larvae and the eggs. Will foam and fizzle, but breaks down into harmless oxygen and water molecules, and dissipates.

I have them right now, just popped up a couple weeks ago, and just doing the sticky pads and trying to let the surface dry out thingy, and I mostly have them under control. The sticky pad victim count has slowed recently. If you go to town with a few of these things, you should get control back.

  9. Yeah what he said^^^ :) That's it.

Oh wait in a large commercial grow that had them bad I placed green lights in the room facing all 4 corners and placed a bunch of yellow stickies on the walls shinning the green light on them during lights off. Little shits are drawn to them. The first day was horrible! so thick with gnats most sections they were bouncing off a layer of gnats instead of sticking.

  11. Late to this one, but you can also stick a couple potato shards into the dirt. Yes, literally cut up pieces of a potato. Gnat larvae with get into it like it’s a birthday cake. This isn’t so much a “control” method, more of a thing that you can use to see if they are 1. Still creeping around down there after treatment or 2. Just a preventative measure so that you know a problematic uprising is coming and you SHOULD neem/whatever soon.

As stupid as it sounds, I’ve made it habit to stick some potato pieces into my dirt and swap em out every couple days. Will let you know before it becomes a real problem.

  12. Yellow stickies for the adult flyers and 3 drenches with Gnatrol for the larvae - works every time.
    Good luck.
