  1. Running 5 gallon bubble buckets. I'm gonna flip them this evening. I was thinking of using tomato cages by putting the stakes through the hydroton and through the netpot to support it. I did a test with one and it worked even better than expected sturdy wise. My question is if I have the stakes in the water will it effect the water or the plant?

  2. I would be cautious about putting the metal legs into my nutrient water. The mix is caustic and would likley corrode the iron. Even if it didn't cause a nutrient inbalance or poison the water for the plants it would very likely make your pH fluctuate in ways that are not normal.

But as a group we do like to learn from other people's mistakes.

  3. You make an excellent point.
Those cages could lead to unwanted metals getting into the reservoir.
Maybe some sort of sleeve over the metal would prevent contact between metal and solution.
There exist tomato cages that are coated with plastic.

  4. I agree, try to keep your reservoir clean as possible I don't think it's a good idea to have foregin objects in your nutrient solution. Invade problems arise it would be more difficult to figure out the actual problems.
