Need advice!

  1. Hey guys, im about to buy an all-new set of cooled reflectors for my room, and need you guys' opinion, as im not sure about the exact light-footprint each of these reflectors give off, and which one would better suit my room...

    - My room is roughly 10x10

    - I am running 4x 1000w lights

    - I am running an ebb&gro hydroponic system in roughly 4x4 formation

I have always ran 4x 1000w lights and it seems to work great, but my room does tend to get rather hot because i dont have any cooling for my lights - just regular ventilation. So ive decided to invest in an all-new set of air-cooled reflectors, and need your help!

What would be better for this room: Hydrofarm Daystar, or Hydrofarm Radiant ?? (or other)

Both will be the aircooled models of course..

Also, im planning to buy 2x fans, to cool them - 1 fan will be running through 2 lights each, so i wasnt sure if that was ok to do? And also is 6" is enough or if ill need 8"? I'd like to save as much money as possible, so id prefer doing 6" if its sufficient enough...

    So to summarize, my questions:
-What reflector would best suit my room?
-Is 6" fans enough to cool sufficiently?
-Can i run 1 fan across 2 lights?
(1 fan across 2 lights each)

Thanks ahead of time guys! You have always been there when i need you. Looking forward to hearing everybodys opinions!

  2. I'm not sure which reflector would be best, so I'll let someone else answer that, but out of curiosity have you ever ordered from them before?

  3. No, but their prices are amazing. Why do you ask?

  4. Those reflectors seem pretty similar to me, the price and the flanges seemed to be the real distinguishing factors. I have a reflector nearly identical to the Radiant running a 600W light and being cooled by a 6" inline fan, the temperature in my closet (84 cu ft) is a consistent 75 F 60. I have my fan drawing air from the 6" flange on my reflector and exhausting through the wall and through a carbon filter. The Daystar may be ideal for a different ducting method, but that's up to you.

Your grow space sounds like it's ten times the size of mine--I've only grown in my closet so I don't know how to scale the ventilation requirements. They say you need to have airflow equal to two times the volume of the room running. My 6" inline fan moves 250 cfm, so with two of them you'd be moving 500 cfm in a space that's ~800 cu. ft. It may be enough, but I'd bet that it wouldn't be. If I were running multiple lights, I'd put a fan and on each reflector, each with it's own exhaust through the wall (especially running 1000Ws). I know it gets pricey, but it's always worth it to do it right. Also, running dual intake ducts to each fan will halve the cooling power per light as compared to having single intake ducts per fan. That's common sense, but worth giving second consideration to seeing as you're going to be using 1000W lamps.

    To succinctly answer you questions:
    - I'd say get the Radiant, though the right one for you depends on how you want to run your ducting
    - Two 6" fans will not be enough to cool your room, two 8" fans maybe, I don't know what they're rated
    - I'd get a fan per light--if one of your two craps out, all your plants could be dead by the time you're back with a replacement.

    Best of luck

  5. lol thats the reason I ask because there prices are pretty good on the verge of almost to good to be true.

  6. Those prices are good, but if you look around you can do even better. HTG Supply has an aircooled reflector for $85:

    High Tech Garden Supply

  7. Well supposedly the daystar and radiant put out quite a different footprint, and thats what im concerned about..

For my 10x10 grow space, running 4x1000w lights, i need to know which reflector would leave a better footprint...

The radiant seems to be more square, as the daystar seems to be more rectangle (reflector shape wise).

Can anybody please give me some insight into which of these would better suit my grow area? Keep in mind, ill be running 4 of these... I just dont want the light to be TOO concentrated (daystar) or TOO spread out (radiant).. but im not sure if either of them would be. So i need advice!

    Can anybody contribute some information?

PS. also heard good things about the super sun 2, which i think is similar to the daystar
