Ok, I have two ladies in a 24in wide 30in tall and 16in deep dresser(I measured from top of the system they are in so this is the total amount of room they have to grow in). I would post pics, but I don't have a camera at the moment. There are two of them and they are both female and both of the same strain, meaning they both came out of the same bud outta my bag . They are a little over three weeks into flowering, and I am using a self made hydro system. Now, one has always grown more stout and a lot stronger then the other one since birth. Not a drastic amount, or I would have culled it. Now, a little over three weeks into flowering the stronger one has 9 flower nodes that obviously look like flowers. They are not HUGE nugs, but penny size wittle fwawers(insert baby voice). But....the other one only has about 6 flower nodes and a few scraggly tiny TINY hairs on them. Now since I have started to have issues with the distance from my 70w hps and 4 cfls, my question is what would you do? Would you cut the little one down, allowing more room for the taller one and being able to tie down the branches? Or would you leave it and take your chances? I guess what I would really like to know is, is it normal for a plant to be a little under 4weeks into flower and only have like one, maybe two at most, hairs on each node? And again, I can not stress how small they are. It looks like the other plant was at 1 1/2 weeks into flower.
Could be pitiful genetics that require a very long flowering period of 14 weeks like some sativas. Could be your environment. Is it too hot? Are they getting enough light? Light too far away? After 4 weeks most indicas will show nice nugs and be halfway done.
Yea, that's what I thought. No they are both of the same bag seed strain and no mixing that up as I broke them out of the same bud. They aren't really having any issues with heat as I cooled down the box to around 70-75. Oh, and they are both definitely pure indicas. They have the classic short and shrubbery look to them. And yes, the stronger one looks like it is a little under half way through. P.S. What would you do though? Would you cut one of them down?
It's really hard to say without pics. I might keep the big one so I could more focus my CFLs onto the big one. You have to remember with CFLs that you have to put them close, almost touching your plants for them to do any amount of good with flowering. Even then, you're not going to get great results. But ask most people, I really, really, hate it when growers use CFLs to flower. I guess if that's all the light you can fit under there, then I would go with one plant. I want to have about 150 watts of light / plant if I'm using CFLs, even with a small HPS. This may be total bullshit, but I would say you would get more bud from having one plant that is able to grow bigger, more dense buds, than having two plants that can only put on airy small buds. Just my .02.
Since you always seem to know what you are talking about I will cut them. Trust me, in this instance pictures really are not needed as I know the second one might, and that is a very BIG might, produce 1/4 of the bigger one. As far as cfls go, I have read a hundred different places saying that they are worthless to flower with. But that really is the only thing I can fit in there with the 70watt hps. Though I don't think a little dinky 70watt hps is all that much better. Again, thanks for the help Do Work.
Trust me, I don't know much, I just try to use what I do know and apply it to everything asked, and give the best advice possible. I realize that in an enclosed space you are limited by what you can do. But in the end it's justified, I mean you should still be able to pull some good weed, and you probably have an incredibly stealthy grow. For that reason alone, if you can provide yourself with your own good weed, and keep it stealthy, then you are doing great. We all want to talk about max harvests and growing the biggest buds, but in the end being able to pull a QP / plant doesn't mean shit if winds you up in jail. In the end, one plant is probably best. More light, in a more concentrated area, with just her should help. Maybe you can add some mylar to line the inside. It's not terribly exspensive an all the reflection you can add, the better.
Teehe, sometimes I think I put a hundred times more effort into making the grow box then I did actually growing. The inside is one great big Mylar mirror. If you ever have some free time search "How to build a stealth grow box start to finish" on YouTube. There are 24 instalments but the guy is freaking awesome.
