Hey guys included is a picture of my garage, also included is a picture of my new carbon filter. I need help deciding where to mount this bad boy.
How handy are you? Do you feel comfortable cutting the interior and exterior? Wall? How deep is that window (could you fit filter in it length wise at all)? Would it fit an AC?
The window is pretty much going to be taken. I just picked up a portable a/c until and it has a window kit, so I figure the window will be used up at that point. I have an attic above the sheet rock. I figure I am going to cut a hole and put this in there, Deflect-o® 4 In. Aluminum Dryer Vent Hood - DAVHA4/12 at The Home Depot I am just wondering do I actually want to mount the filter on the sheet rock ceiling then actually drill the hole in the attic and put the vent up there?
The garage is pretty small, and this fan and filter are rated at 190 cfm, so I am curious if 190cfm will be enough to suck all the smell from the garage, I am going to put a temporary wall in the garage so I can split up veg and flower room, I guess I am more or less asking will this carbon filter be sufficient to take all the smell out of the garage if I place it anywhere up high? Or do I need to it specifically in the flower area, when I do my wall, it will not touch the ceiling, last grow I merely hung plastic all around my flower area. I just want to be assured that no matter where I mount this thing it is going to work.
The first pic basically have the fan pump into the wall then make a 90 and turn outside in front of window / under. If you can go up to attic I would disperse it higher than at street level is one advantage. I would mount it between lamp and entrance on the ceiling on a beam. Or hang it from bungees if its not very heavy, run ducting up through ceiling, out into the attic carbon scrubbed.
Another question, I am going to have this portable a/c attached to the window, and the carbon filter going out a dryer vent, will I have enough fresh air with that combo, or do I need to find another avenue for getting fresh air into the garage. A/C for the window, and carbon filter out, no other source of fresh air? Any ideas if this is going to work. I had Powdered Mildew on my last grow due to poor ventilation, I am also going to have 2 fans running constanly. Note my last grow I had no window, and had extreme cold weather so I could not open the garage door. Stagnant air with just a fan P/M. This is a horrible picture, but the white my the window is the filter, then the black going to the attic is the hose, then the fan in the attic is the white circle, then more hose and the dryer vent outside. So another words the fan in the attic the filter mounted to garage ceiling. Would that work. Oh yeah then I am going to have the a/c right underneath the window, am I going to just be sucking my cold air right outside or do I need to move my filter into a different area. And can the filter be angle up and down, or does it have to be right to left.
Can I do it like this, the black is the filter, angled up and down. The white arrow is the hose tubing, the red star would be the fan in the attic, and the pink right arrow would be the dryer vent. Then of course the pink octagon shape under the window would be my portable a/c. So can the filter be aimed like that? Should the filter be right above the window where the a/c is going to be?
Yeah i like the idea of the filter hanging down like near the door so as you come in and out that air is getting vented so hopefully less odor near door. I would move air around the room from the back corner blowing towards the carbon filter.
So here is a real life picture of the filter both ways. How in the world would I ever tie the filter down if I used it north to south. I guess I could try to tie it to the wall, then I would have to twist the hose in the attic to attach it to the fan further away from the wall. Uhg Then would it suck all the cold air straight out of the garage with the a/c being pretty much right under the carbon filter. If the a/c was on the other side of the room it would be perfect, but the only window in the garage is right by were I almost have to mount the carbon filter. Plus right outside that door is a very snoopy ass neighbor, doesnt really matter I am a legal grower, but it still bothers me to have a disgruntled neighbor. The reason I am worried about the a/c is in the summer were I live it gets really really hot. And the garage gets in the area of 100-120 without air, and it is not insulated much at all, especially with the large garage door. Problems, and more problems that is why I am here asking. As a matter of fact I just put that window in yesterday.
You can mount it on the other side of the room. How heavy is the filter? If you attach a ring you should be okay not sure. You might be able to rig a sling out of bungees for it so that you can easily remove it like do 2 bungee loops on ceiling (2 hooks total should work) slides filter into that going through each one in a row. Then vent up at 90with a metal elbow then attach hose.
Hey bohbo, I am just now mounting my carbon filter and I noticed the way this filter is ran is opposite of what we discussed. In the ebay link it shows the carbon filter the fan, well while looking at the fan I see the airflow is towards the carbon filter and the fan is just supposed to suck the air from the room into the filter with no exit to the outside. Does this sound normal to you? look at the filter picture from the first link of this thread and you will see how they have it set up.
Just flip the fan around you want air traveling into the filter then through fan and then out through ceiling. Or have fan sucking air in and then into ceiling then out through carbon.
See if you look at the way they have the fan in the picture of it assembled towards the bottom, the direction of the fan is towards the filter. 4" INLINE FAN CARBON FILTER COMBO ODOR CONTROL SCRUBBER - eBay (item 370349849944 end time Mar-20-10 15:07:40 PDT) I appreciate your help, I was just worried if I turned the fan around and put hoses on both sides of the fan it might cause damage to the fan because of some specs not being met or something. You never know. I have always read that you should suck air into the filter then push it outside with the fan just like your saying. Then I actually get the fan and I am assembling it and I notice the airflow is towards the filter instead of vice versa. It just confused my ass.
All Carbon filters are designed for the air to flow in both directions. They are more efficient if you pull the air through the filter instead of pushing it so all the fine dust particles will be captured in the prefilter that surrounds the filter. This way your filter will not be clogged with dust and you will get the full life out of it. Good luck with your grow.
