Need Advice: Durability v.s. Functionality

  1. I've allocated $500 to spend on my new glass and for the past three weeks or so I was set on picking up a SG Stem/8arm.

But, during a pretty lifted conversation with my buddy, he told me that if I drop 5 bills on a piece of glass I should except it to last 5-7 years and hopefully longer.

I'm a college student that lives on campus... and frequently goes back home on the weekends. Contemplating my friend's comment I started to rethink what I should pickup. SG Stem/8 would be a sick piece, and since I blaze almost every day at college i'd use it at least 5/7 days a week. Then again, there is a pretty high possibility of the stem/8 being broken at college...

Then I thought about picking up a 9mm from US Tubes. Even though I'm pretty tired of hitting it out of a straight tube a 9mm would probably last me significantly longer than the stem/8.

So now I'm stuck in between dropping $500 for a piece that I really want and have had my eye on for awhile versus picking up a $300 9mm that would definitely be more rugged and be a safer investment.

I definitely cannot afford both... I've thought about picking up the stem/8 and leaving it at my house so It would only be used on the weekends, but then I wouldn't get to use it often. GC help a homie out!!

    Shorthanded version of my problem:
I want to pickup a SG stem/8 but I live on university campus so I'm afraid I'll break it in a couple years so can't decide if I should pick up the stem/8 I want or a more durable 9mm from US Tubes.

  2. Us tubes does make dome and tree percs. They have them on bfg.

  3. Really, just go with what you will enjoy the most. I would pickup an sg stemline + a/c and just get a cheap straight tube that you could move around and not really worry about. There are tubes on esty, I think dwb can make 9mm tubes (I have no idea if they are cheaper, but I'd predict they are). Maybe the stemline won't last five years, but you'll sure get more enjoyment out of it :D.

  4. I was thinking along the same train of thought... I think I might go ahead and get the cheapest 9mm I can find to fk with at college and take around and once I recover from that purchase I'll go ahead and get the stem/8 that I really want.

  5. Get the stem/8 and keep it at your house. It'll make it more special to hit since you don't use it often and it will stay safer.

  6. I would honestly just go get an SGW waffle for around 300 and then you save 200 which you could either drop on another decent bong for home, or get some attachments etc..

Stone Glass Works - Waffle Bubbler

I personally like the waffle king bub more than the straight tube but check em both out :bongin: the waffle perc stacks beautifully

  7. I already considered getting a SGW Waffel but in the end I still rather get the stem/8.

At this point I'm leaning towards getting 9mm US Tubes first and the stem/8 later on.

  8. Just take care of it,get it a case, setup rules and boundaries, you break it you buy it,your friends use it,then they must sign a pledge of payback lol and put there blood on it, in case of breakage. If set up a system of safe use and storage, your bong will survive. Maybe just let a certain few use it. I have kept my bongs at my friends,we have partied, they were fine.

  9. Agreed..Stem/8 is one beautiful tube..IMO get the stemline BEFORE the US (STEMLINE FTW) but thats just me.

  10. I had my SYN showerhead mini in a college dorm (not to mention the cheapest dorm, hence the most hoodlum crowd), and I managed to keep it alive for my whole stay there. Living off-campus now, much less stressful for my glass!

Edit: What I meant to say was, get the stem/8, but watch it with your life and keep it tucked away when not in use.

  11. if i was in your situation. I'd definetly without a doubt go for the 9mm 8arm HVY beaker, from aqualabtech.com

    $300

  12. This would be a great pick up. Too bad this piece doesnt have the recessed joint like most hvy's.(the main reason i love them so much)
