Those are probably my 4 favorite rappers. I have heard tons of lupe, except his new album (is it worth it) and most of his mixtapes. Heard lots of old nas, some newer stuff. I can recite illmatic and stillmatic in my sleep. Mos Def, I mostly fuck wtih Black on both sides, and common I don't really listen to a specific album. So what I'm asking you guys, is to give me suggestions for songs from these guys to listen to, or even whole albums where just about every song is worth listening to. I want to think what you guys think is the best from these artists.

they're all great artists, without a doubt. but there's a lot of better rappers out there you've probably never heard of that's my opinion, at least. Nas in particular.. i sort of think he's over-hyped. Illmatic and It Was Written are rightfully hyped though.
Everything Lupe and Mos Def has done is nice in my opinion. I like all the artists but Nas is over hyped, his last few albums arn't as good as illmatic, and Common's last album wasn't all that either. You need to get up to date with more underground rappers.
get lupe enemy of the state mixtape his new album, lasers, isnt out yet get nas god's son, i am, and hip hop is dead (albums) common - the bitch in you is one of my favorite diss tracks jadakiss ft nas, common, and styles p - why remix mos def and talib kweli - we are blackstar is a MUST to any hip hop fan

I don't think Nas is overrated, I just think people try to compare every album he drops to Illmatic, which of course would make him look bad. He's not the greatest rapper out there, but I still consider him to be one of the best (top 15)

Check out both lupe albums and look out for LASERS comin out soon
Nice thread, these are 3 of my favorites as well. "Be" is probably the best all around album by Common, everything on it is gold. Electric Circus is definitely a different kind of album...I like it, but you kind of have to have an open mind. Resurrection is a classic from his early days, I think it's his 2nd best album.
I'm sure some of these have been covered, but I am gonna hit you with what I listen to from these guys, because they are probably four of my favorite as well. From Nas I would check out God's Son. It's a nice mix between his wax-poetic lyrics and and some more commercial stuff. Good though. Besides that though I think he spoiled us with Illmatic so much that nothing compares. For Lupe, besides his two albums its all mixtapes for me. His mixtapes kill, just google them and you should be able to cop some. I like 'revenge of the nerds.' For Mos Def, his new stuff is cool, but he just keeps getting wierder, so keep up on the old stuff. Blackstar is no doubt the best thing ever created, so get their 1 album. Common, its all about Basement Evolution. As a bonus, you NEED to check out Talib Kweli. This man is always on tracks with Mos and Common, and he has a lot of really good albums, probably the most quality material out of all these guys in my opinion. Get Eardrum and Reflection Eternal by Talib.
I'd say Lupe is one my favorites and Black on Both Sides is one of my favorite hip hop cds ever. I don't really listen to that much Nas, and I've barely heard any Common, but what I have heard of both of them I liked, I'm gonna have to listen to some more of each of them.
First and foremost, Lupe Fiasco or whatever his name is does not belong in mix with the other three emcees up there. Not even close. Gangstarr, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Jurassic 5, People Under the Stairs, Danger Doom(MF Doom with Danger Mouse), MF Doom, Talib like said above. Anything by these groups/people are the shit. If you like Nas a lot you might wanna check out Cormega. Doesnt have the lyrical skill that Nas does but hes from QB and kinda has that sound. Also The Infamous by Mobb Deep but I'm sure youve heard that. Check out Diverse One A.M. if like Mos Def. That whole CD is ill man. Also look for the song Wyin' Out with Mos Def, Diverse, and RjD2. That is one of the illest RjD2 beats ever made. For Common, I really dont know. Hes probably my favorite rapper, him or nas, and like that dude said above, Resurrection and Be are too good. maybe check out De La Soul. Most of their shit iight. And yea explore more underground shit man. their is loads of good shit out there if you just explore your taste in music.
I have been so hooked on Nas-'Ether' recently. Stillmatic has too much filler on it for my taste, but illmatic, it was written and his self-titled are all dirty albums.
how are we calling nas over hyped. this guys insane i dont see why nobody has rated "untitled" the album is so consistant and is so well done give the dude some credit, spesh on tracks "america" and "n.i.g.g.e.r" saw him live last year too nothing but raw music. NAS is the sheit
also you should check out THE ROOTS. black thought is sick and so is questlove. actually everyone. check out some of their stuff.
no no im just saying like people r making it sound like hes fallen off. untitled being his last album was sick. illmatic is my defs fave. The world is yourst
