i noticed when people say disrespectful stuff or call people names, the mods just add a little note at the bottom of the message saying it isnt tolerated, yet, the message remains? if it isnt deleted by the mod the disrespectful post continues to stand. doesnt this seem a bit backwards? mabye i have some sort of fundamental misunderstanding.
It's a public warning so that people can see what the warning was for, thus seeing what exactly they should NOT do if they don't want a warning and infraction. That's the only benefit of the public warning, it lets the poster and others know the rules and what doesn't stand. If you're implying that you think all they do is receive a little edit into their post and nothing further, that would be incorrect. Warnings and infractions accrue points that will lead to being banned from the forums. Hope that helps.
