N00b CO2 Fermentation

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by 570rm47, Mar 15, 2016.

  1. It appears i am about to make a classic mistake of the uninitiated and ask about something controversial and possibly outside the realm of relevance.

I need a bit of help from someone mathematically minded, is there a rough way for me to calculate the production of co2 during fermentation. I use no less than 20kg of either dextrose monohydrate or white sugar aka crystalline sucrose a month its usually about 50kg and about half the time as much as 80kg.
I prefer the dextrose the umm by-product is palatable much quicker. A bit of light reading suggests that glucose(dextrose appears to be something called a d-glucose further reading required) produces a tiny bit more co2 Glucose & Sucrose Fermentation: Carbon Dioxide Production | Online Homework Help | SchoolWorkHelper
This rather sincere seeming guide http://boards.cannabis.com/threads/co2-enrichment-guide.183121/
seems to offer a fairly straightforward calculation but I have found all sorts of bits that i must now dredge from the depths of memory I am sure that i listened somewhere during secondary school. I will however be following through with due diligence. Molar hmm i think a payed $200 to have one of them removed whats that got to do with the measurement of something again ;)

  2. I have figured out how to remove excess info from images just to appease a bit of perfectly healthy paranoia. I will now go take a few pics and measurements of what I have achieved since some goats got hungry

  3. I originally had 8 seedlings stashed in my white trash style lawn, the shortest was as tall as me in their 9L buckets when the neighbors ran out of stuff for their goats to eat. The goats ignored everything else and went straight for my babies, so i took 3 cuttings from each and left the parents under the hedge where they thought it was time to sex and then the goats destroyed what was left of them.

Only one was male bye bye 3 cuttings i put them in a 90l storage container with a large cfl for rooting took about 10 days got 100% rooting. Their new home became the discarded packing crate and only had 6 23w cfl 3 cool-white and 3 day-white it was also lined with some of the b/w plastic that is now on the wall. The box now contains 18 23w cfls 5 day-white and 13 cool-white. It is set up terribly for anything taller than 100mm but when the get to tall and stretch I have cut them at the longest spot and made clones this last time and wow the plants now under the hps have lots of lats and good amount of nodes in the canopy. Since becoming aware of light leakage and enclosing it has been 26c in the box a few times and i dont think it gets enough co2.

The barrel was an act of desperation and was originally to have plants exposed to a hot light but with heaps of ventilation and air movement, and works great a plant never exposed to anything other than cfl looks just a touch sad when 70mm from hps but is growing visibly by the end of the second exposure to hps.
From here to an afternoon in the shade outdoors and then its ready for my other experiment. The temporary glass house like everything i make is made from a discarded window. and so far the wall has been sufficiently warm without having to vent via fan to keep the interior 3c warmer than outside and it is not even placed where the hot areas are directly on the other side of the wall yet. The drum is now on 12h/12h just in case It doesnt work outside.
The fans on the drum work way better than the ones on the box more air moved distributed over different area and way quieter, they are from a pile of old PC's and run off one of the old psu the fans are consuming a touch less than 6w but are running on an 80% efficient psu so could be like 10w.
The fans on the box are using about 45w one was a wall extraction fan from a second hand shop for next to nothing the other from a broken microwave for nothing but are loud and really inefficient compared to my other solution.

The heated glasshouse heated via excess heat from lighting indoors at night will hopefully allow me to flower with free lights from the sky. At the moment the plants are only in the glass house at night and i move them a bit according to where the light is first and last thing but because of this I lost the best two that spent some time vegging under the hps damn goats again. I am still unsure about this i expect humidity problems once the heat in here really starts battling the cold on the other side of the glass. So as said above hps is set to flower and will soon occupy the area on top of grow area.

The new area upper area has only become a thing since i got a bunch more discarded b/w plastic and will also house my fermentation vessel as well as my flower room till the glasshouse experiment hopefully proves its intended result. In the past about 18 months i have been putting 40kg of sugar or dextrose with yeast in 200L drums like the one the hps is in. I will start using my original 30l drums with a 5kg wash so i can keep a more constant output of extra co2

  4. Ok my connection on my ahh secure non fixed line broadband is resetting connection constantly watch this space though images coming

  5. Be careful moving plants in and outdoor if you're maintaining a dedicated indoor grow space. It's easy as heck to bring in little critters with you and infect your indoor grow space. TWW

  6. It appears when using slower internet connections coupled with tor browser after you learn how to hold your mouth just so, you should then patiently wait for each file to load one after the other as you do not have flash plugin to make it more um me friendly also adding text while uploading without flash also appears to interrupt it. I also think that because of the tor browser my session keeps expiring and then i have to do the im not a robot over and over 17.jpg 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg 5.jpg 6.jpg 7.jpg 8.jpg 9.jpg 10.jpg 11.jpg 13.jpg 12.jpg 14.jpg 15.jpg 16.jpg 17.jpg 18.jpg 19.jpg 20.jpg

  7. Thank you "The Widow White" for your reply the ones in the little improvised glasshouse have not and due to your advice will not ever venture back on the other side of that iron wall. Fortunately I have been moving them around outside to gain extra time in direct sunlight, they are kept in the glasshouse only when environmental conditions would cause damage and maybe in the later stages of flowering if it works out just to keep them looking a little extra crystal covered. Better glasshouse placement after some careful landscaping will hopefully allow me increased direct sunlight hours without mucking about so much

  8. Dunno could be wasting my money but im gonna buy a Chinese combo need an ec, ph, co2, and maybe orp meter as well any comments on this hopefully in not too distant future can compare these with more reputably manufactured items. I would like to move into aeroponics pretty soon but i couldnt make one over night its taken a couple of months of spare time to get just the LP sprinkler unit anywhere near useable

  9. Been busy as but heaps has been hapening in my garden post some pics soon

  10. I cannot believe how easy it was to miss soo much out.
I have harvested 1 plant to make hash as it looked a bit sickly and wasnt responding to fertilizer early and harvested 11 plants. Yield 1 pound and a half ounce of pretty good bud, a large brown bag of stuff that i smoked before i got to the better stuff, 2.3g of hash, a large box of of rubbish for cooking or extraction and half a small freezer of the finer manicuring's (dunno if that's a word) fresh frozen for more hash.

Also tried an IPA Extraction of fresh frozen with some success not much yield about .7% of the frozen plant materials weight, what it did yield caused minor perceptual hallucinations in 2 of 5 willing subjects more would have been tested but i ran out and wont make any more because it seems such a small amount of fun for so much effort.

My experience so far is ah um a lil good and bad. The bad is mostly security type concerns ;) and a bit being a noob i am most of the time uncertain about what i am getting up to. I am however getting results my first time to completion I have more than what it cost even if i could afford a pound in one go it has however cost about $600 my dollars in power and about $600 for everything else. Right ahh umm now i was a bit greedy and generous so what have i got left right now

  11. Well i forgot this was even here might have to post some of the current grow only two years overdue fo an update
