my windows 8 experience

  1. I have just finished backing everything up and syncing my browser bookmarks, just gonna finish double checking if I have everything I need before I start. I will update with my impressions after the installation is done, the process, and new stuff that is noticeable right away

  2. Installation Process
Well, it turns out Windows Compatability is very picky when it is looking for things to get rid of. I had to uninstall my anti-virus and my itunes as well. I took the liberty of backing everything up too.

After about an hour, here I am on the new Windows 8. The first thing I notice is that wtf every single file I backed up is still in place O_O All of my games are still installed, my passwords saved, bookmarks, etc.

    So far I have noticed
    -Better versatility of start menu
-cleaner interface (gonna explore for an aero option)

    Pros
--Improved task manager and file transfer status windows

    Cons
--Everything is difficult to find. Even more difficult for me to describe to other people where to find it. Here is an example of trying to explain how to reboot:

Me: "OK just move your mouse to the top right corner of the screen"
User: "There's nothing there, it's just blank"
Me: "I know, just move your mouse to the corner. You should see a pane appear on the right side of the screen"
User: "I moved my mouse there but nothing appeared"
    Me: ...
    Me: ...
    Me: ...
Me: "OK try moving the cursor away, then move it back to the corner. Make sure it's all the way in the corner, as far as it can go."
User: "Oh OK there it is"
    Me: "Now click Settings, then..."

See the problem? It's just going to drive me insane.

--Dumbass issue that Microsoft will apparently never figure out because it has been a problem since at least XP. In the middle of typing a sentence, the Windows Update reminder pops up asking you to reboot. Well I type at 90 words per fucking minute. By the time Windows even displays the pop-up on my screen, a space bar push has already activated the Reboot option. Now in the middle of typing my unsaved text, the fucking computer reboots.

--Unintelligent power saving. Why the fuck is my monitor turning off if I'm in the middle of watching a god damn movie? The same apps (VLC, Plex) worked fine in Win7 and the monitor never turned off...

  4. Just get OS-X and forget Windows endless upgrades and hassles

  5. Hackintosh? Good luck with a system that wasn't built specifically for that purpose.

Buy a mac? Yeah. Fucking. Right. Talk about throwing money away.
