It might make it a little more obvious but im sure you could work with it.

Oh and 600 is nothing! Id be looking for like 2-3 a month but yeah, i do remember grocries and stuff being mad expensive.

Okay wait, lemme get this right. When you checked on it, the pot was there with the soil and all, but the plant was gone? Or was the pot gone too?

If the pot was still there with the soil and all, it probably was an animal... Check the soil for a little root ball, if its in there then it was deffinatly an animal (or a dumbass that killed it trying to steal it ).
