Here are my first pictures of my grow room and setup. I am running a T5, 4 foot 6 bulb, with 2, T12s for side lighting and a 65 watt CFL in the middle above the plants. I just swiched to 12/12 today and changed out two of the T5s to 2700k bulbs and the big 65 wt. CFL in the middle is also a 2700. I have a t12 mounted to a rack that I have been raising during veg stage and using as side lighting. I Hung a T12 along side the T5 hood to catch any of the side branches if the start to shoot. The upper T12 has Agrosun 5000k bulbs ( only 2 bulbs at 2400 Lm each), and the side rail T12 is filled with 3500k bulbs also at 2400 Lm each. The grow area is surrounded on 3 sides by mylar and the removable side that the T12s are attached has a car reflector shade mounted on it. I have a fan blowing between the pot rows and pushing the air out the open end of the grow area. I used Lst to maximize my light use and try to create an even canopy for budding. The lights go off in half an hour and the bloom begins! (well..eventually) I will take more photos as the buds and trichs form. I did alot of cropping also. Some of the girls look like little bonzai trees with trunks as fat as rolls of nickles.
That other thing in that one photo is a grow box for starting seedlings and vegging for a couple weeks
I have an 8 inch room fan blowing down between the rows. It seems to create a gentle breeze that comes up from below the pots. I can see them swaying slightly. Thanks. I started bloom cycle 2 days ago and am inspecting (with 30-60x mag.)for sex. It's a little early except things are looking encouraging. (no ball sacks please) I will post more as thrics and buds form. These NYC Diesel may take a 10 week bloom, I'll photo journal progress. I have good internode and leaf spacing (pluss LST like crazy!) so I hope to see some nice nugs. Going to take patience though using only fluoros.
Okay, been in flower for 2 weeks and these pics were taken about 6 days ago after sexing. I got 6 girls out of 8 plants. I will post more pics today after the lights come on. They are forming frosty nugs everwhere. I LST'd them at 3 weeks and they shot up alot of side branches, so each plant has several bud sites. I wish I had current photos today, but just got the batteries charged on the camera. The difference in bud development in a few short days is amazing. They are growing pretty fast too. I hope they slow down soon, so I can manage the light to the lower branches. I built a side wall out of wood and mylar and have been growing with side lighting the entire time. I have little popcorn buds forming all over the lower branches, but am afraid the light intensity won't reach them. This whole grow is fluorescent using T5s and CFL bulbs. Now it's time to watch and wait!
Okay, I got the pictures to upload. The problem was on my end. These are all NYC Diesel. I have 5 plants in these phoos. I started with 8 plants all together. 1 Indica variety unknown and 7 diesel plants grown from seed. I ended up with 6 female diesel and the indica is also female. I reverted one diesel and the indica back to veg. and placed them both back in the veg box a week ago. These pics today are the 5 diesel 2 weeks into flowering. I have alot of side lighting, so I'm hoping for alot of little popcorn buds on the lower branches. We'll see.....
I am courious to see what you yeild will be. I have a space but ventilation for hid lighting is out of the question . I was told that I wouldn"'t get dank buds using only flouros. I hope you proove them wrong, as I was thinking about doing the same the with some autos and DWC.
Yeah, Ive been hearing the same thing. My Neighbor grows with only HID and he keeps stopping by every couple days and shakes his head. He says he is impressed. I know fluoros aren't as intense, but I LST'd my plants starting at week 3 of veg and created several good branches. Each plant has several tops and the buds are swelling everyday. I belive if you go totally fluoro, side lighting is key. getting light to the lower branches and managing the canopy. I had to bend and tie down one of the colas on one plant so it wouldn't compromise the light intensity of the others, by raising the light. I am going to do this again on my next grow but I will most likely be using scrog this time. I think that will work best for fluoros. The next batch is a mix of Jack Diesel, The Bomb, Boss Hog, and C9. That will be a true test, since the Jack Diesel and the C9 are sativa dominant, and will strech considerably more than the others. All of these are tall sativas and are cranking out buds. I was wrong about the strain though. I got the seeds from my neighbor and he told me he thought they were NYC diesel or Strawberry Cough, since he was growing those 2 strains at that time. I now believe these are cough, Every photo I have seen and the smell, growth pattern etc. I can't wait! These are truly some of the prettiest plants I have ever seen. They tripled in the first 10 days of flower. Keeping the light around 4-6 inches from the plants require raising the light every morning. So far, that was the only pain in the ass, keeping up with the growth spurts.
I was thinking of using 3 fixtures one on each side and one for the canopy. The ones i was lookiing at are 8 t5 lamps rated at 400 Watts/40,000lumens per fixture. After reading your post I will prolly be at the grow shop tomorrow. There goes about a grand, but I will have my girs in the end. Keep up the very impressive work. Please keep us posted. It still all boils down to grams/watt and beating the hell out of the hid boys. LOL
Did you every think about topping these plants you know the plants will grow shorter and thicker. Every time you cut a top you get two more if I where you I would do it now considering your space even though your indica strain is a low plant to begin with if you top now veg longer. I will bet your yield will get higher for sure... any questions on topping let me know I will try and post a pic of my first low topped plant with four main colas instead of one...

Yeah, I think I'll do alot more topping on the next grow. I did top a couple of them and they doubled nicely. Part of the problem has been with a confusion as to the strain. My neighbor could't remember which seeds he had given me. They were all low, compact and bushy (all around 12-14 inches) during veg. They tripled when switched to 12/12 and it was a race to manage the lights and keep adequate side lighting. These are definately sativa dominant! I am going to have to do some serious plant training of some sort on the next grow. My next seedlings currently in the veg room are, 2 Jack Diesel, 1 THC Bomb, 2 Boss Hog and 1 Vintage 2006 C99. The C99 and Boss Hog were UFO freebies, but I haver high hopes. All of these next ones are mixed hybrids, so canopy management will be critical. I will deffinately be checking out your posts and weighing the options of LST and Scrog. I do have a beautifull indica in the veg room that was started at the same time as these budding ones. I have been cropping the shit out of it to keep it low while it waits to go in the floweer room. It must have 24 tops on it now. I will post pictures of that one when it goes into flowering. It is White Rhino, so it should be kick ass! Week 5 pictures will be up on Sunday. Thanks everyone
As a oldtimer my advice is to stop going with all the strain names and focus more on Indica to Sativa %. Some of my best and strongest plants came from bagseed. Im not lying when I tell you this son. I would wait on the bloom top them let them heal and start feeling better then flower a sog of low plants... Try a few out of bag seed you may be very surprised at how quality the smoke and product is off these... Good LUck
I have a 4'x 6 bulb T5 with a 4' x 2 bulb T8 that is overdriven by adding another balast. It cranks almost as bright as the T5s for around $25.00. (it shortens the bulb life, but who cares. The T8 bulbs are around $3.00-$4.00.) I hung it next to the T5's and it extends the light coverage. It's hard to see in the picture, but I use alot of side lighting and reflection. I built a small reflective wall by attaching some thin plywood to a cheap frame and stapling Mylar to it. I also mounted another 4' T8 2 bulb about 24" up on that horizontally. I like to use those cheap clamp light reflectors also. You can get them in a couple sizes and I like to put those 43 watt cfls. (actual wattage, not equivelent0 They crank around 2400 lumens and you can move those clamp lights wherever you want to. I also rotate my plants around the grow space each time I water. I have mylar and even an auto shade reflector in use. I pretty much enclose that thing and surround it with side lights. I mounted an old vanity bathroom fixture to the house wall on the other side and it has 5 cfls in it all ranging from 43-65 watts. When you add everything up, it's around 675 watts. A 600 watt HID would provide much more intense light above, but I would still have to add additional side lighting to maximize bud developmeent anyhow. (I like the little popcorn nugs you get down low sometimes) I'll post some more pics on Sunday when week 5 begins. I will include some pics of the system.
