Hey blades. So I am trying to put together a closet grow. I have everything up and running. I have a 24''x36''x'64'' tent and got a good deal on a 600 watt hps light. I have the light turned down to 50% (lowest setting) and its showing 110 degrees. I have a small fan blowing on the light, and a pc fan sucking air through the tube and out my carbon filter through 6'' ducting. I am sure my light is way to big for the setup and should have only went with a 400 watt. I have a 6'' inline fan but it was WAY to loud.. Im sure the pc fan isnt sucking the hot air like it should. Should I try buying a quiet 6'' inline fan, and if so any recommendations? Stealth is what im shooting for!
They make a box that you can put your fan in and it takes most of the noise away it's a sound dampener or something like that Sent from iPhone 5
any clue where i could find this, and does it actually work? I mean this fan i bought sounds like a trucks in the closet lol. Even with my speed controller, I can only get it to about 75% before it looses all the power. Anyways, I moved the light about 2 feet off the cups and its at about 100 degrees. I think if i get more air flow, problem solved right?
Still have the box the inline came in? If so or another box, cut holes on either side to accept duct. Wrap fan with some grocery plastic bags. Use spray foam to further insulate the box. Should be able to run at full speed without ungodly noise comming from the inline.
Sure do, genious idea! Il give that one a shot. I did google some boxes to see what you were talking about freeborn. Il try this, thanks guys!
If it is a high velocity fan, using a speed controller may help as well. Even turned down to 50% it would flow better than a small house fan, and the noise is reduced.
BAD IDEA!!! This is a fire waiting to happen. Motors give off heat that needs to be dispersed. Without air it the motor will fail or burn up. 4th grow(Apprentice) - BC Big Bud 1200w
So did you not see that when his speed controller gets down to 75% it cuts off all together?
Lol hell no. Sounds like a bad fan, I would replace it. There is no reason it should cut off at that setting.
I don't think he skimped on any thing he got the opposite fucking industrial strength lol loud as shit mine is loud too man I just deal but I'm not having to be sneaky lol Sent from iPhone 5
I hope this helps its how I have mine I have the central air being pulled in with 240 CFM fan and out with a 440 CFM Sent from iPhone 5
IMHO what you need to do is forget the pc fan(my guess is its too underpowered to be useful regardless) and just make your tent a passive intake(a vent near the bottom that allows fresh air in because of the negative pressure creates by the exhaust fan). Buy a good fan. I cheaped out and bought a Chinese one that blew a bearing after 3 months. I bought a vortex 6" which cost $250 cdn but has 10 year warranty. When you can, turn your fan up an you'll get more cool air in to brim down those temps. Peace 4th grow(Apprentice) - BC Big Bud 1200w
haha I saw the title and thought you were camping and posting about how your tent you were sleeping in was hot...
Agree on getting a quality quiet inline fan. Some are quieter than others in different sizes. Elicent/CFM 6" fans are really quiet. Max, Vortex are other names. The computer fan is worthless. Keeping the temperature down is all about getting the hot air out and the cool air in quickly. With good ventilation you should get the temperature down enough to run the 600w.
Thanks all for the quick replys. I have the doors to my tent open for now and that keeps my temps right around 98. That should be fine to get them sprouted over the next few days right? I have a 6'' hydrofarm 400 CFM fan coming from amazon, and I plan making a box for it as well.
98 is really hot, I am new to this also but I have my 4by 4 tent temps at 73 rite now and they are doing great .
No that's not alright, your going to fry your plants man. Can you put a desk fan or something to push cool air through the open door? 4th grow(Apprentice) - BC Big Bud 1200w
