My granddaughter knows that I smoke Delta 8 Hemp. She is in the medical professions academy in high school to prepare her for college and med school. She is always telling me that, even though it's legal in this Red state, she wishes I wouldn't vape it. She said it was wrong. And I try to explain that it helps my arthritis and swelling in my hands. Other medical problems I have. But she said that I should take prescription pain meds instead. I tried to tell her that I don't like taking them because of the side effects. And they make me sick to my stomach. How do I avoid those questions? I really don't want to make her dad mad by telling her that it's mother nature's medicine. Because he doesn't want me to even mention the word "Cannabis" around her. I guess because he use to have a cocaine habit when he was younger.
Hi, I'm "Granny", a 75 year old cannabis science nerd who collects medical studies about cannabis. I worked in education most of my adult life and am addicted to teaching. I have arthritis in my hands, and prescription pain killers give me stomach cramps! You (or your granddaughter?) might discuss your problem with the pro-cannabis nurses at leaf411. The link below will take you to their site so you can get their contact info. They are dedicated to answering questions about cannabis with the medical facts. Ask your granddaughter's dad is he would mind her contacting actual nurses about the questions she has about your medical use. Do You Need a Medical Marijuana Card? (news – 2020) https://leaf411.org/do-you-need-a-medical-marijuana-card/ Now we have a little "failure to communicate" about the method you are using, but it's not your fault. Seems there are two very different ways of "vaping". So do you use a vape pen or use buds? (To be honest, I haven't used Delta 8, since I grow and just get hash from the dispensary. ) I may have a study or two that might calm her worries and misconceptions, but it would be helpful to know which type of vaping you do. Also, exactly what are her objections? What makes using cannabis "wrong" in her opinion? Have her look up the number of fatalities from opioids vs the number of deaths from cannabis. As for the efficacy of cannabis compared to pharmaceuticals- Pills to Pot: Observational Analyses of Cannabis Substitution Among Medical Cannabis Users With Chronic Pain. (abst – 2019) Pills to Pot: Observational Analyses of Cannabis Substitution Among Medical Cannabis Users With Chronic Pain “Consistent with other observational studies, approximately 80% reported substituting cannabis for traditional pain medications (53% for opioids, 22% for benzodiazepines), citing fewer side effects and better symptom management as their rationale for doing so.” "Cannabis as a Substitute for Opioid-Based Pain Medication: Patient Self-Report" Cannabis as a Substitute for Opioid-Based Pain Medication: Patient Self-Report "Respondents overwhelmingly reported that cannabis provided relief on par with their other medications, but without the unwanted side effects. Ninety-seven percent of the sample “strongly agreed/agreed” that they are able to decrease the amount of opiates they consume when they also use cannabis”. Now, changing the subject a bit, I want to "turn you on" to a way to get your cannabis working even better. This is really important since your cooking oils may be making your arthritis and other problems even worse! And if you aren't taking Omega 3 (fish oil capsules), start! To properly make the CB1 receptors that cannabis uses to heal, you need omega 3! Most folks are WAY low in anti-inflammatory Omega 3 because the cheaper pro-inflammatory Omega 6 oils (corn, soy, "mixed vegetable" oils) are favored by food manufacturers. We need about 4 parts Omega 6 to every 1 part Omega 3, but most Americans are walking around with a 16 to 1 ratio in their bodies. This leaves them in a state of bodily inflammation (which makes your arthritis hurt more). I found out about this originally in "Nutritional omega-3 deficiency abolishes endocannabinoid-mediated neuronal functions". (full – 2011) https://www.inmed.fr/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/17878.pdf Here's the key sentence (n-3 = Omega 3) “In n-3-deficient mice, presynaptic cannabinoid CB(1) receptors (CB(1)Rs) normally responding to endocannabinoids were uncoupled from their effector G(i/o) proteins.” It's like a radio- the signal (THC) goes into the receiver (CB1 receptor) which sends the music down a wire (a connector fiber) to the speaker (the G i/o effector protein) and you hear the music (the pain stops/ you get high/ the cancer cell dies). Omega 3 is the "solder" that connects everything together. But when a person is deficient in Omega 3, the connector fiber is made imperfectly and the receptor is a "dud"- unable to transmit the healing message! This can have major effects on both physical and mental health. Although they are just focused on the effects of a lack of Omega 3, and not the resulting damage to the endocannabinoid system, this abstract makes the results of our Omega 6/Omega 3 imbalance pretty clear. “Excessive amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and a very high omega-6/omega-3 ratio, as is found in today's Western diets, promote the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, whereas increased levels of omega-3 PUFA (a low omega-6/omega-3 ratio) exert suppressive effects.” From “The importance of the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 essential fatty acids” The importance of the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 essential fatty acids - PubMed OK hon, I gotta get to bed. I volunteer at a dispensary on Saturdays, and I need to get up early. I'll check back when I'm there tomorrow. Hope this helps, Granny
Unfortunately those who are probably the most qualified to be president don't want anything to do with the job. Too much bullshit and pressure come with it.
Ask your Granddaughter why she would rather see you addicted to Opiates and then chronically be forced to use laxatives to overcome the all to well known Constipation they cause let alone the wicked withdrawal symptoms that are much like a Junkie kicking Heroin. I wouldn't wish that fate on my enemies let alone my Grandmother RIP. Cannabis is NOT physically addicting. BNW
I would just say I appreciate your concern, but it’s what I choose to do with my body and it works for me. If she’s still in high school she probably doesn’t understand the weight of the opiate addiction crisis, and that’s ok, she’ll learn later. They most likely have a lot of advocation in schools right now against vaping (the nicotine vapes) because it is really popular amongst the youth at the moment. Remember DARE to be drug free? She has the wrong idea and loves her grandpa/grandma lol.
Teens typically think they know everything, we older folks know better. I basically just say it's one of those 'agree to disagree' things. One of my sons smoked 4-5 times a week, now he's a dad and is against weed. Funny how those things happen.
She knows that cannabis is illegal on a federal level and that some states have medical and recreational cannabis laws on the books. We live in a state where Delta 8 is legal but cannabis is not. I wanted to raise my kids differently than the way I was raised, I did not have a happy childhood, so I was a more liberal parent. And my oldest daughter, the one with the up-tight daughter in high school, acts just like my mom when it came to telling her daughter about sex. My oldest thinks weed should be legal. My son-in-law says, "Those days are behind me, I'm not that person anymore." So he has shielded his daughter from the world. My granddaughter will be 15 in March and she still doesn't know EXACTLY how babies are made. Her father told her that she can get pregnant just by kissing a boy. I'm afraid they are setting her up to have an "accident" before she finishes high school. But I don't say anything because how they raise their daughter is, "none of my business." My granddaughter also has ADHD and ODD and she is on a few meds herself. She tells me that what I do is wrong and illegal. She will argue with a brick wall. Her father was into cocaine when he lived in California, he got busted and went before a judge. He was facing felony charges and the judge said that he was going to "make an example out of him." When he went before the same judge again, he was sweating bullets, knowing he was going to prison for a long time. But he must have forgotten that his father's family is from Sicily. And he was once asked if he wanted to join the "family business" but refused. I checked with his mom and she confirmed it was true. The judge was VERY apologetic and let him go. I think his dad pulled a few favors from a member of the family business. But my son-in-law thinks it was an act of God. It could've been, who knows? But I think it was someone with more flesh and blood. So talking to him about cannabis as a natural medicine wouldn't do any good.
Her dad had that drug habit way before she was born so she didn't see any of it. And she has never seen anyone with an addiction except for smoking cigars, which he does, and my ex-husband's girlfriend smokes weed but she does it 24/7 and she smokes with her grandson, who is my granddaughter's age. So that is a big stink.
I have diverticulosis because of constipation and opiates just make it worse. It got so bad that I developed an infection and one of the pockets that formed ruptured and I ended up in the E.R. No job, no insurance and the surgeon refused to operate because, "It's not ruptured, just infected. You don't need surgery. We will admit you and give you I.V. antibiotics and if by Monday you don't improve, I'll operate." I'm a nurse aide and my youngest daughter is a nurse, I saw the CT scan and it was ruptured. This was on a Friday night and come Monday morning, they rushed my application for Medicaid and Obamacare through, and by 10 am I was wheeled into surgery where they had to remove 6 inches of my colon because it had died. While I was in the E.R. and found out they weren't going to operate, I told both my daughters to sue them if I died.
Sorry I was late getting back to you. The Apple Fest was going on and we weren't about to miss out on pork chop sandwiches and corn dogs. As for your question, I use vape cartridges and I have my own batteries. I use 3Chi, Exhale Wellness for now. And My arthritis pain has gone down to a 3 to 4 on the pain scale. We live in a Republican state and cannabis is illegal here. Doctors around here don't want to prescribe opiates because the states are cracking down on people getting pain meds so they are not writing out scripts. Instead, they are using anti-inflammatory meds which don't help at all. Thanks for the tip on the Omega-3, I didn't know about that. But if I start taking them again, I can't take the recommended dose, it made me sick last time. It will only have to be one pill a day. The bad omega-6? I'll have to stop eating corn, which is no skin off of my teeth. We use only extra-virgin olive oil. Soy as in tofu? Or soy as in soy sauce? Because I love Chinese and it has soy sauce in it. As for soy as in tofu, GAG me with roughage!! I love my steak, chicken, and wild game. My granddaughter doesn't like it because she thinks it's illegal despite the fact that it is legal. She thinks she's right and she will argue with me about it for HOURS. OMG! She's acting just like a Trump supporter!!! I might have to move out.
How do I avoid those questions.................? Sometimes its worth listening to your children and avoid discussing the subject with your postulant good luck
Sweetie, you are not bothering me. I'm surprised I haven't had a drug or alcohol problem by now considering my childhood. I smoke cigarettes for years and finally got that monkey off of my back. Took me five tries over several years but I finally did it. And they said that tobacco addiction is as bad as a heroin habit. I don't like taking prescription pain meds. Because I know how some addicts' O.D. They are on pain meds, when they get addicted they don't know when it happened. They just know that they need it. They keep getting refills. They notice that they are having a hard time using the bathroom, or they don't notice at all, just like Elvis did. That's another story. Their body is getting used to the meds so to get the same effect as before, they take "one more won't hurt." Until they take that one extra pill too many or start taking the next dose sooner and sooner. Or do like Karen Ann Quinlin did, mix it with alcohol. She is what my Advance Directive was made from. I am a DNR. Karen went into a vegetative state when she mixed painkillers and booze. Her parents fought the hospital in court to have her removed from life support. I was damn near killed in the hospital by one of those "Hospitalists" that the hospital in Daviess Co. hired after they moved into their new building several years ago. It was when I lost part of my colon. He prescribed pain medication and the first time I took it, I was ok but they only gave me three pills when I was supposed to have 4. Don't worry they were tiny and rust-colored. But when I got the next dose, they were all there. I was in a chair and thank God my mom was with me and a nurse. All I remember is that I was talking to my mom when everything went black. I kept hearing someone, very faintly, call my name over and over. I don't know how long I was out. In fact, I don't remember much of anything that day. That moron almost gave me too much medication and O.D. me. But I only recently started vaping Delta 8 for my arthritis. Until just a few months ago, I hadn't smoked since I was in high school over 40 years ago. And am hoping my state goes green even if it's only medical. I only do it at night before I go to bed. And that's my dose for the next 24 hrs. And no one ever overdosed on cannabis. It's the safest medication out there.
Have you tried the hemp CBD creams for the arthritis? CBD isn't quite as effective as THC for pain, but it does help. CBD from hemp is federally legal, so you might give it a try. Hempvana has been advertising on TV so they have a better chance of being legit. Medical Fraud, Mislabeling, Contamination: All Common in CBD Products (USA) (full - 2020) Medical Fraud, Mislabeling, Contamination: All Common in CBD Products I have both mild carpal tunnel and arthritis in my hands plus a bit of neuropathy in my right hand and lower arm (numbness, tingling, "invisible tap-dancing spiders" and "voodoo pin jabs". ) I make a DIY balm from hemp seed oil, olive oil, beeswax and cannabis and it is surprisingly effective on the arthritis and carpal tunnel. Plus my hands look great for a gal my age. And a former addict once told me it was harder to quit tobacco! To quote him, "You don't find half-filled syringes lying all over the sidewalk!". So good on you for quitting! Tobacco was one of the few things my late husband and I disagreed on, and his tobacco led to his death (emphysema, lung cancer, and finally, heart failure). You should try taking your Omega 3 with a meal. The food makes it so the Omega 3 doesn't "slam" into your body. Dietary upsets are common when folks try to change their diet and do it too fast. The Krill oil capsules are smaller and a bit more concentrated, so they may work better for you. Also try incorporating more wild-caught fish, grass-fed beef, walnuts, flax seed and (Canadian, not Chinese) hemp seed into your diet. You don't have to avoid corn or soy, just their oils. Corn, as an example, is only 3% oil, so the actual amount of Omega-6 in that ear of corn on the cob is small. But if you are making, say, old-fashioned cornmeal cookies using corn oil (I used to have a recipe for them), with corn oil having a ratio of 83 to 1, you are getting a good-sized dose of Omega-6 in those cookies. And that's how our bodies get out of balance. We do need Omega-6, even though it is pro-inflammatory, because our bodies take a good part of that Omega 6 and change it into various necessary compounds. What's left over is supposed to balance the Omega-3. But that only works right when our bodies are around the 4 to 1 ratio. With most Americans having around a 16 to 1 ratio (and up to 50 to 1) in their bodies, it's no wonder we are a sick society! (Imagine using 4 times the amount of an ingredient, like sugar, in a cake recipe. You'd get something, but it won't be a cake!) Olive oil is an Omega-9 oil, and although not essential, it may help lower cholesterol. Interestingly, hemp seed oil (legal in all states) has a 3 to one ratio, and it doesn't go all "clumpy" in the fridge like Olive oil does. Hemp seed oil is a pretty emerald green in color, and makes a good salad dressing. But again, get it from Canada, not China- hemp seed oil can go rancid and the long shipping time from China almost insures some degree of rancidity. And have you seen this? (It's a 2010 plug for her book, but still interesting and she even gave my List a free plug, even though we've never talked!) Shona also lost a good part of her intestines to the combination of a bowel disorder and incompetent doctors. What I found interesting is watching later videos of her. She became noticeably healthier-looking as time passed (even though she was often under a great deal of stress). OK, that's about it for now. Granny
I'll do some shopping for Omega-3 and yes it was krill oil that made me sick. It said to take 4 pills at once and 45 minutes later it came back up. So I will start small. My health problems are as long as my arm. Atril-Fib, RA, fibromyalgia, seizures, diverticulosis, high blood pressure, dizziness, fainting spells, degenerative disk disease, whiplash injury, etc., etc. Your friend was right about the cigarettes. I tried quitting while my husband still smoked. I finally quit after we separated. I will look Shonda up on amazon. Good thing I have an account.
Okay. Where would I go for unbiased opinions? I'm 60 years old, I have an aneurysm in the making and I will be lucky to live another 5 years. I think I'm way past the point of caring. I just hope it's quick, like my brother's death.
