My State Rep (WA) Responds to HB2401

Here was my initial letter:

SUBJECT: it is time for reform

MESSAGE:

The purpose of my writing to you is to inform you that I am for HB 2401. This bill is also known as the Marijuana Legalization bill. Legalizing this substance would save millions of dollars in prosecution of non-violent crimes, and would also get the substance out of the criminal element, as it would be readily available, (for adults over the age of 21), at state-owned LCSB stores.

As you are aware, the LCSB maintains very strict regulations on who may purchase alcohol. They cannot sell to minors, or those persons who appear under the infnluence of alcohol. Also, in many cities across the state, it is a rather steep civil offense to consume alcohol in public areas. I contend that these same regulations should be applied to marijuana sales and consumption. Not only would this make a more just legal system, but at the taxation rate of 15%/gram, the public treasure would also benefit from the passage of the bill.

I urge you to pass this legislation. You would be doing the citizens of Washington, (and the public treasury of Washington), a favor by passing this legislation. If you are interested, I have a very extensive document regarding the medicinal uses of marijuana, which is far more extensive then WA state law provides for. It contains everything from ADD/ADHD to Wilson's Disease. If you are interested in this document, I will be more then happy to send it to you via email.

Once again, I urge you to pass HB 2401. It can only be beneficial to the citizens of WA State. Thank you for your time.

Here was the reply I got back:

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns and comments. I appreciate your taking the time and effort to share your views with me.

I am humbled and honored to represent our constituents in the 9th District. As legislators, we have hundreds of issues to consider. We need to be fiscally responsible and work towards stimulating the economy. We also need to help protect our most vulnerable citizens and maintain individual rights and freedoms.

Please know that I am working hard to make the best decisions possible towards responsive and efficient state government. Your input alerts me to issues of major concern and helps me to effectively serve our district.

EDIT: Typical politician. A vauge letter that could apply to anything, while avoiding the issue I brought to her attention. I'm not voting for her the next election. That's for sure. I mean, for christ's sake, at least take a fucking position!
