My seeds arrived... couple of questions

  1. Well first I have to say that after dealing with drchronic.com (seed bank) for the very first time, I was deeply amused. I ordered and they delivered before expectancy and the whole process was totally discreet. Highly recommend them. :)

Well I finally got my 4 pack of femanized Grapefruit seeds and im going to start my very first grow very soon. I will start with one plant for my first grow so I have to find a good way to store my 3 other seeds since I wont be planting them until my next grow. I currently have them in the same little plastic container in where they came from and have them stored in a plastic bag inside a drawer in my closet.

Temperature will not go over 70 degrees farenheit and humidity is pretty much dry the whole time in my drawer. I was wondering that if its ok to leave them in there for months.

    heres a pic

I also have another question. I was wondering that when I start germinating my first seed, (will be using the paper towel method) once it starts showing its root and I place it in a large party cup with moist soil and cover it with a plastic wrap to keep in the moisture, I am suppose to put it in a warm/dark environment until it sprouts out of the soil and once it sprouts is when I remove the plastic wrap and start giving it light preferably not to much light until it proceeds onto its vegetative state, (shows its true leaves) Am I correct?

And when I wrap it in a plastic wrap to keep the humidity high, I read that some people poke some holes to let oxygen in while others keep it completely covered depriving the seedling from oxygen. Whats the best way to do it?

  2. hi there

on the back of that packet it says keep refrigerated for freshness. its probably a better option that a warm cupboard or drawer.

when you put your sprout from paper towel into soil you wont need to put the pot in a dark place because the seed is in darkness in that there soil. just pop it somewhere you can monitor it easily and when it pops up, put it straight under the light.

I never personally used cling film with my seedlings so im not sure about that one. If theres a potential for you to leave it too long they could suffocate. just keep and eye on em.

  3. are you going to be keeping a grow journal im very interested in your grow b/c im thinking of doing the same thing. how much were your seed and how long did it take them to arrive

  4. I've never used any suran wrap or anything over the seedlings.

  5. Actually yes, If everything goes as planned, I should start my grow journal on Friday January 5th. :)

  6. I usually fold the paper towel and put it in a ziplock baggy to germinate, retains humidity and all that and I usually have a very good germination rate, even with bagseed.

  7. /\ /\ Done the same exact thing for 4 grows now and have yet to get a seed that hasnt germinated (Close to 30 seeds).
