Hey Grasscity. So, a few months ago I moved in with my friend's parents, due to domestic issues. The friend left for college a few days before I moved in, and he has a turtle. It's a female turtle, and it's about 5.5-6 inches long. I really do not know ANY thing about turtles, and I feel like the environment this turtle lives in is kind of bland. (Just rocks, a basking rock, two 60-watts as a light source, and only supplements for food, no live meals) I have tried feeding it apple bits once, and she seemed to eat only a couple. Oh, and unfortunately there's no filtration system for the water so I have to, on a daily basis, take her out of the tank and drain the water to refill it. Now my question is, I feel like she is very very angry. When I'm not in the room, she is swimming against the back of the tank as though she is trying to escape. But, when I enter the room and she hears me (toking it up of course), she moves closest she can to me and swims at me very very aggressively, as if trying to reach me. And, when I approach the tank, she at first retracts but then starts attacking and headbutting the glass. Is there anything I can do to make her happier at little to no cost? It's not my pet, but I hate seeing it so upset all the time. I let it roam around indoors (it's winter right now), and tried hand feeding her so I'm associated with 'good things'. But no matter what I can't seem to win her affection. A lot of sites say to leave it be for a week, but I feel like it would be very very hungry and just, it seems wrong to me. Any help? I would greatly appreciate all input, I see all these videos of happy turtles but mine is showing the exact opposite of signs. :/
Id be pissed too if i lived in a glass cage my whole life Just keep feeding it and keeping the cage clean i mean what else are you supposed to do? Bond with it over a game of fetch? Lol
Already tried the whole fetch thing. haha jk. But I was wondering if maybe adding artificial foliage and/or the occasional live meal would help encourage a healthier life for it. Hand feeding it sure was scary as hell, it was going after my hand and I had to move the food in between it and myself. I am also looking around for a log or larger rock to place so it can hide instead of constantly being exposed.
