    I see some good honorable mentions up there. My list as far as it goes for good RAP albums and good hip-hop albums for a taste of intelligence and a head rocking beat would fall like so...:

    For rap albums:
    Nas and Jay-Z- Earlier-earliest stuff. Nas being my favorite of the two.
    Common
    KRS-One

    For Hiphop albums-
    Deltron 3030- Only because Blockheads beats are some of the best on the block. Best song- 3030 or Madness
    Atmosphere- Long time favorite back since 99 and my first copy of Overcast! Best album- The Lucy Ford EP, God Loves Ugly, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold
    [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoLxuyV9qz8"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoLxuyV9qz8[/ame]

    Sage Francis- My personal choice for "Most Rage Against The Machine"-esque emcee. If you're looking for beats and substance, this is the guy. Best lyricist ever. Best albums- A Healthy Distrust, Human The Dead Dance, and Personal Journals.
    [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ7w-z4BvMo"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ7w-z4BvMo[/ame]

    Aesop Rock- For ecclectic and abstract verbal abuse, this guy has some serious talent. Best album- Labor Days or Float. Hard choice.
    [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fltYTVEXxdc"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fltYTVEXxdc[/ame]

    Buck 65- Can never be imitated. Personal favorite album- This Right Here is Buck 65 (a compilation of his personal favorites re-mixed with a spoken-word feel to it) Best album- probably vertex or man overboard.
    [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBCQ7edDmoE"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBCQ7edDmoE[/ame]

    And then for anything else hip hop related, I praise the locals Josh Martinez and Sleep.

    For the record- If anyone has a chance, listen to some music by Sleep off of his album "Christopher". Simply BLAZING speed when he spits and a VERY catchy beat on nearly every track.
    [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9pD8nIUtXE"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9pD8nIUtXE[/ame]

    Josh Martinez is just fucking bad ass.

  2. [quote name='The_genius']My problem with rap and hip hop is that it's not as sound intense as other genres. I listen to rap and I feel like i'm overcome with this newage feel of overdriving bass and lack of intelligent coherency in the music. All you hear these days is a focus on money, drugs, violence, and I'm not into that. I like a lot of Kanye West's stuff cause it tries to address different problems in society, and can sometimes humorize certain aspects of life. To me the "music" itself in rap feels simplistic and lacking. When I listen to music I want to FILL my ears with sound. The highs, the mids, the lows, I want it all to just flow through me, and with rap and hip hop it seems there is far too much emphasis on that driving bass, and maybe a little electronic beat here and there. Granted, when I listen to something I like it's poetic, and I realize it takes talent to get up and do what rappers and hip hop artists do everyday, and maybe I've been listening to the wrong stuff.

    Does anybody know of anything that would fit my style? You know, where I hear about things other than "living in the hood" or "Getting what's yours" or something to that effect. I'd LOVE to hear something that is sound intensive, with a good beat, good MEANINGFUL and POETIC lyrics, and won't leave me disgusted at the end of the song.

    HELP! Enlighten me!

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDpQzNCtEIg]YouTube - ‪Nas - Nasty [NEW 2011]‬‏[/ame]

    This is Nas with Damian Marley from their Album from last summer in 2010. (I'm 99% sure you'll like these two)

    I really enjoy smoking to this song but I'm a bass head but I love the melody in it and the drumming Lex Luger is an awesome drummer that what makes me like his songs all the kicks and hat rolls and snare rolls. He has a sick whistle he uses in a lot of his songs all the noses together sound awesome when I'm high.
